MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

My throttling issue was resolved. New customers line usages are checked 15 days after the contract started, and within my first 15 days, I have already used >50% of my 100gig threshold, meaning that they suspect that I will reach the real threshold before the 30 day mark.

It seems fair, since at the current rate I was going to reach the threshold anyway, and I am upgrading to the premium package at the end of the month.

I have to say that MWEB Guy is by far more responsive then the other MWEB support tools, in comparison to sending an email to MWEB directly. So far I can't complain about MWEB regards to customer service or line speed/downloading issues, except the throttling nonsense.

So my feedback? MWEB is good, only when you stay within your Threshold, or you live In a area where the biggest crime is people parking on a red line and not cable theft.

All the best for the future with MWEB, have to be happy for you even though they have let down so many past customers :( Including me

Hi Guys, I'm currently with Mweb 4Mbps Uncapped (Premium)

I have not issues with speed, I think there is hardly anyone on my exchange as I never drop much further below 430kbps download.
I also assume I am staying under the threshold since my speed never drops.

I don't download but I watch a lot of youtube and do a lot of streaming i.e. Netflix etc and so far I have no problems with Mweb.

However to save money I'm looking at moving to Afrihost, is there any compelling reason to stay with Mweb since Afrihost is cheaper, a lot of people have told me if I'm thinking of dropping to an Mweb standard account I should rather consider moving to Afrihost?

What are anyones thoughts?

Move to Afrihost, so much better than Mweb. That annoying throttle bug, nobody got time for that :) No limits, just awesome Internet joy!

I dropped from 4Meg Premium to 6Meg Standard and have been very happy with speed and performance. My understanding that the only difference between Standard and Premium is the throttling threshold. I have also been streaming both Netflix and YouTube and never experienced buffering. Also, I do the odd NZB download and they mostly download at full speed, even during business hours.

I am happy so far.

please test with an alternate router, if this resolves the issue.

We may have to replace the router if it is faulty.

Think I found the problem, someone must have bumped the plug, it wasn't fully plugged in, will let you know in a couple hours if this was indeed the issue.

Sir just don't get bitten by the throttle bug. Don't cross the limits with your downloads ;) :D I wish they would remove throttling all together, why is it so hard. Grrrrrrrrrr :( then I'd be back in a jiffy

If Afrihost is so good then why would you move back to Mweb just because throttling is removed?

If throttling had anything to do with his change of ISP or his constant spamming of this thread, he would be using a capped internet connection and he would be spamming all the threads and not just this one. Afrihost throttles a lot more than Mweb ever has, and they start doing it after 0 bytes. Also, I think I spotted him saying he was using OpenWeb now, who also throttle.

Well that's the thing, I was on mweb a while back but then moved to Afrihost for price, but then I think I ended up moving back to mweb because I think I was being throttled a lot on Afrihost, was just hoping that has changed?

From what I have experienced Mweb only really throttles torrents, and I don't torrent... meh but with prices of everything going up I'm looking to try cut some of my costs.

What I mean is, I'll have an account with Mweb and Afrihost. Have the best of both worlds :D But that will never happen unless Derek Hershaw resigns from CEO, Mweb takes serious actions and makes changes to there AUP. Can't they see they ripping off there customers

I doubt it has changed. Throttling after 0 bytes has been their policy ever after the disaster that was them moving to MTN. I used to get about 1/16th the speed I paid for, and maybe 1/8th on good days. It got so bad that some games (those they hadn't whitelisted in their throttling system) became completely unplayable. When I pointed this out to Afriman, he started claiming that my games were in fact P2P file transfer applications, and when I told him it was definitely not so, he rage cancelled my Afrihost account.

I'm averaging 30-40GB per month, so for me Mweb is working out just fine. Certainly the best uncapped ISP I've tried so far. Even though I barely use any data, I was constantly throttled with Afrihost, and even basic things such as loading an image in a browser made it look like I was on dial-up and not ADSL.

Lol sir, you totally out of line. Throttling doesn't exist in Afrihost. it's called Shaping :) I have not said anything about using Openweb at all. I'm just happy that Mweb has been good to you :) :D Hope they keep it up. I'm not spamming, I'm just helping customers and trying to get Mweb guy to stop throttling altogether ! Can't u see that :( It will benefit everyone in the long run including you. You can ask TEXTILE GUY and he will tell you what my mission is :)

You can ask TEXTILE GUY

Ah, maybe it was he who used OpenWeb then. In any case, I take it that your mission is being as annoying making people dislike you and your actions, and then advocating certain ISPs so that people transfer said dislike to the ISPs you keep cheering for? Because it's working. Knowing how much irrational hate there is in you, and how much you're lying about, well, everything, I always assume that the opposite of whatever you're spamming is the truth.

Hahaha I'm only stating the truth. I was personally with Mweb and got treated like an abuser, throttled now and again, was not only me but a lot more people. Just look back at this thread man. I'm not lying and spamming rubbish, everyone is entitled to there opinion. I'm sorry if I came out to you a bit harsh but Mweb have been a nightmare for me. They throttle, Afrihost doesn't, they only shape. Yeah I think it was him, people won't dislike me- they will thank me later ;) It's fact and a honest statement- Mweb throttles and have soft caps. It's truly not Uncapped :(

Couldnt give a hoot who likes or dislikes me, or any other member of this forum.

As for the hate speech, well I have, if one reads the posts that I have made and those of other ex MWEB folk - one would note that the soft cap is the issue per se. Its not quantified and was not what was signed for at the outset, the contract was changed unilaterally.
The thing about opinions is that everyone has one. Sometimes you identify with that opinion, sometimes you dont. And thats just life.

For me personally, I would love to be an MWEB customer, but not while the uncapped is sold as such, but is patently softcapped. I can assure you, that this forum alone is not the only place on the internet where displeasure of such is voiced, and I am certainly not alone in this view.
Lord knows I have tried to make MWEB aware of this via - interalia - this forum.
Should such policy change, I would say that MWEB is likely the best ISP IMHO.

I retain a good relationship with MWEB, send them pleasantries at Christmas, give them compliments on their network and praise their techies, these are the good things in my opinion, and I voice such. If anyone disagrees, well that's their prerogative. They are welcome to such.

And like GreatD - I too wish you all the best with MWEB or whatever ISP you choose. :D

I am sure that you can choose do whatever you believe is good and correct, and can choose to assume whatever you please, as most of us do. Personally, I have trial accounts with a few ISps at the moment - partly driven by comments from others. IMHO, I find AH to be quite good, and intend spending more with them in the near future.

Allow me to be the first to apologize if I have annoyed you or otherwise caused you any harm. :)

I'm on a 1mb uncapped premium account bundle. I download between ~120gigs.

Will upgrading to the 4mb uncapped account bundle (R449) work for my downloading needs?

If its premium then it will. I can't recommend standard packages :)

Premium has soft cap limit of 400 GB, why not go 2 Mb uncapped premium and you should be fine in terms of your download needs.
