MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Hi I O U

1. There is no end date regarding the trial account, but for now it is a 7 days trial account.

2. You will be able to make use of VPN's with the uncapped account. It depends what you will be doing with it though. As long as you are abiding with the AUP everything will be fine.

Thanks for the quick reply & relevant info. I've briefly looked through the AUP, and on the face of it, I wouldn't come close to breaking any of the rules. Have saved it as a .pdf to go through in detail soon, just to be 100% sure.

Regards.

Hi Guys

Has torrent shaping been increased lately? Speeds seem to hover at about 150kb/s. I usually have very good speeds with torrents as long as they well seeded.
Currently getting a movie with over 1000 seeders and its only going at 130kb/s. Had the same thing with another download earlier.

Good evening Bar_Rat, torrent speeds are not gauranteed and will fluctuate from day to day.

Yes i know that but they just seem to not go higher than 200kb/s. Even if i queue multiple torrents their combined speed still dsnt go over 200kb/s.

Only from 1st of June!:wtf:
That would sux.

I hope that by June/July that Telkom upgrades 1Mbps users to 2Mbps and that Mweb 1Mbps uncapped would also be bumped up to 2Mbps whilst staying at R199pm. I won't mind paying slightly extra for 2Mbps uncapped data though, but the less we have to pay, the better :D

just a quick comment on MWEB customer support:

You guys are awesome. My dealings with telkom for the last 2 years have been a nightmare. Now mweb is handling my telkom fault, and because of that I know that people with a good understanding of adsl are managing the problem and won't let the fault be closed prematurely, which telkom would do in a heartbeat. My line is still not really fixed, and the fault has been open for over a month. But mweb has made the situation much MUCH more tolerable.

Thank you, and please keep up the good work.

Had a billing problem with Mweb yesterday, and it was sorted out in under 5min. Great service, was very surprised and will definably keep going with you guys. Great Job :)

With that being said, net is being funny today

If I may ask a question to all Mweb uncapped 1mb users on here... what type of speeds are you getting for all types of traffic after being a user for more than 3 or 4 months? Thats when an account really shows its colors as its always rosy in the beginning.

I am considering switching to Mweb from Webafrica and would appreciate the feedback! Thanks in advance.

I had a friend who had 1Mb Mweb for over a year and she always had "rosy speeds".
The fact that you want to drop WA is reason enough to go to Mweb (I did that this month) :)

Well I actually gave notice of cancellation this week so that its effective end of May. I am now looking around at capped and uncapped products but the Mweb one at R199 looks good when compared to say the unshaped 50 gb package of Afrihost. I would probably only use 30 gb per month but want to get proper speeds if I use the product. I download sometimes but most of the time its gaming and computer updates/browsing etc. Torrents are used but not a lot. Usually to get older stuff that isn't on tv or available from friends.

So would it meet the above requirements from your experience?

From what I've read in this thread (I've been keeping up to date with all the ISP threads), as long as you don't pop up as a heavy user you will be fine with whatever you do.
Http is barely shaped from what I can see. I browse a lot and in Netlimiter any browsing maxes out my line.
The same happens for me on ftp and nntp (news servers).
P2p, as Will@Mweb says, is dynamic and changes from day to day. I don't use p2p so I can't comment.

Therfore from my short time at Mweb I would definitely say yes.

The 'heavy user' part is what I have read about and am worried as it is so vague. How am I to know that 40 gb per month will or will not be considered a heavy user? lol. Theoretical max download amount on a 1 mb line if used 24/7 for 30 days at 100 kb/sec is 250 gb. So I would be doing roughly 15% of that and thats why I don't think I would be considered a heavy user but I don't know what MWEB's requirements are.

Only one way to find out though so I will have to see how it goes from June onwards.

Mweb Guy said that as long as you don't bypass shaping (such as those torrent to http thingies), you can enjoy your downloads. 40GB is not a lot by any means. I think I've done 40GB of nntp just this last week ;)

That sounds promising. Shot for all the replies!

Hi IceDreama

Let me know if you'd like me to hook you up with a free 7 day trial account.
That way you could test the network for yourself to see how it performs. ;)

Just pointing out that the MWEB R199 package is shaped (if I'm thinking of the right package) and the 50GB package you mention is unshaped, so they are different. Capped accound are (always) unshaped. Uncapped account may or may not be unshaped. Your experience will depend on what kind of account you get and your usage (of course).
