Just an addon to this I have been monitoring this myself and I have seen torrent speeds of around 60-70kB during the day, in the 150KB region early evening and late night speeds of 350kB+.

This is on a 4mb shaped product, tested both from our test bench at the office and my own line.

So my questions would be:

Is this more, or less in line with what you guys are experiencing?

Does it differ drastically from your expectation of how a shaped 4mb product at this pricepoint should be performing for p2p traffic?

Also just an aside note on the erratic nature of torrent performance that must be taken into account:

On my late night test I initially saw speeds jumping up and down around the 90-100KB mark. I noted that the file in question had in the region of 25 active seeds and 2 active peers.

I monitored this for about 5 minutes with no change until the number of active peers jumped up to 4 and the throughput almost instantly tripled.

Personally on 1mb its much worse for me. Yesterday over 6 hours the speed maxed out at 10kbs for about 10 minutes and the rest of the time it was sitting at about 0.5kbs or not downloading at all. Today my torrents don't get past 0.2kbs

I only get some downloading speed after 8pm and full download speed at around 2am. At 8am my downloads are dead again.

Good afternoon, what is being affected? The ping results you have provided seems ok.

Good Afternoon, during which time frames did your speed max at 10kbs. Also please can you indicate if you were downloading single files, or if you had several files running to get an accurate reflection of total speeds capable?

I keep having to refresh pages as they time out. Then when they do load it takes forever.... And I have never had timeouts on my pings before and also never had spikes like that, this is all new from last week.... I thinks MWEB has changed sumfin??

Also why cant we run www.pingtest.net anymore on MWEB?

EDIT: I stand corrected, just cant pingtest JHB

I'll keep monitoring it, seems to go nicely for a while then stall... Well port was re-created .. hope it stays like this ...

Hi IRG

Please keep me posted.

Will do .... BTW has MWEB noticed any reason to why Modern Warfare 3 is so laggy lately? I know they released the new DLC and things have gone wonky since, any trends picked up on that?

That was with single file torrent downloads. The 10kbs I got was between 8am and 5pm. It only bursts to 25kbs every now and then if it can maintain the 10kbs for long enough. But usually after it burst it drops back to 10kbs or stops downloading at all.

Hi IRG

It will be best to make contact with our Gaming admins on our dedicated forums: http://forums.gamezone.co.za/

Your downloading torrents during business hours from 8am to 5pm and you have a shaped account. What are your speeds like off peak?

Can't open speedtest, can open pingtest, can't open youtube, can open facebook.

Mweb Network status page gives me "server error in gateway"
Mweb main site gives me "server limited"
mweb signmein just does not open?

Moved over to my SAIX's accounts and everything above works fine?

Around 8pm I get 20kbs and I only get max speed around 2am in the morning. I understand that I am on a shaped account and that it is business hours but 2 weeks ago I could get 60-80kbs in business hours. Now I can't even get 10kbs.
My friend who is in the same area on the same exchange as me is also experiencing this and another friend who lives about 25km from me and is on a different exchange is also experiencing this.

It started for all 3 of us on the same day about 2 weeks ago. Previously we 50-80kbs during the day which is great and then all of a sudden we get 10kbs or less.
Not sure how my friends connections are doing today, but so far I haven't gotten over 1kbs today from 8am.

I've been with mweb from August last year and mostly I've gotten consistent speeds. Some days are better than others but overall I have been very impressed with torrent speeds during all times of the day.
It can't just be that torrents are given low priority. If it was we would have had this same experience over the last few months, not just these last 2 weeks.

Good day Hummercellc

please dm the accont details you are using or connecting with? (two active accounts linked)

Just switched over to MWeb ... is it always this slow during the day with P2P downloads?

Averaging 6.7kB/s on a 1mb line?

Good Afternoon oVaDoSe, your experience would fluctuate depending on network loads. Please also provide me your MWEB account details or your MWEB email address via direct message.

hmmm Mr MWEB Guy .... Riddle me this:

I am now at home with my other 4mb account and have the same sort of pings and time outs ... also my Steam cannot connect! But if I connect via my Afrihost account ... no issues & steam connects?!?

When do I get to do the infamous "I told you so" ?

Just ran a quick MW3 - even on an Int server with 1 bar ping i got 20 - 7... was much smoother than local on mweb ?

torrent running at 130kbps on 1meg line. Although I must add that if I pause this one and let another torrent download speeds drop below 10kbps...

*EDIT: Post #100 WHOOHOO!:p

I'm experiencing the exact same as this. As is my friend 60km away. And yes it only started about 2 weeks ago too.

Also i havn't got a reply why my hamachi isn't working at times.
