MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback

I'm definitely getting MWEB's 1mbps uncapped all-inclusive! But I've never had ADSL before, so I went and purchased an ADSL modem, and a Wifi Router. Currently using the router with my iBurst modem (contract expires end April).

I've seen mention of a 1 week trial account, but can't find info of this on the MWEB site, is it possible for me to sign-up for this, so that I will have internet access going into the month of May? Who would be the best person to speak to?

Send Mweb Guy a pm, and include your name and phone number.

Hi X-Gamer

You can speak to me :)

Drop me your contact details via PM and I will arrange for a consultant to contact you regarding it.

Morning Guys

I saw some discussion regarding the upcoming Guildwars2 beta weekend and some concerns about an ncsoft address that isn't resolving on our network.

I did some further digging into this and found that www.guildwars2.com is resolving fine, however
guildwars2.ncsoft.com seems to be having some issues with DNS propogation, not just for us but globally.

http://just-dnslookup.com/index.php?vh=guildwars2.ncsoft.com&c=&s=dns+lookup!

Take a look at the results above and you will see that there are a number of servers showing the address as non-existent.

I haven't been following the beta program myself so I'm not sure what the .ncsoft.com address is for - are these the beta servers themselves?

Those of you who are following the program please try this again over the next day or two and please let me know if it doesn't resolve itself.

Hi Will
The server address as above is the web-login for the Guildwars2 system at NCSoft from what I understand (long story).

If push comes to shove I will add the Google DNS to my Mweb pppoe login, but will check if it comes up on your DNS server.

Thanks for taking a look at it for us :)

No problem froot :)

I'll set a reminder for myself to check the DNS situation again tomorrow and if it still looks problematic I'll get our engineers to take a look at it and see if there's anything we can do on our side to get the address to populate onto our DNS servers.

I haven't had time to get involved in the beta program myself, but I will probably be picking up a copy of this when it comes out.

I stopped playing the first game a few years back as I really had done everything worth doing and the UW ecto farming runs were getting boring :p, but I'm really keen to see what they've done with the sequel.

It's completely different. Different storyline for each race/specialization, persistent worlds (so you see people in the world itself, if you destroy this place it stays destroyed, etc), no more "events" but rather dynamic things. Worth your while :)

The http://us.merchstore.ncsoft.com/uk store also doesn't resolve, but fares better on just-dnslookup than the guildwars2.ncsoft.com one: http://just-dnslookup.com/index.php?vh=us.merchstore.ncsoft.com&c=&s=dns+lookup!

I don't think it's going to resolve itself :D (Sorry, I couldn't resist the pun :o) So expect that it still won't resolve tomorrow.

Started playing it again a few weeks ago. Hadn't touched it in years and I'm actually enjoying it again :p

I can't wait to see what the beta will be like this weekend.

I are teh excite :D

What I like about how Mweb operates, as has been my experience for the last two weeks...
News server (mainly the Mweb nntp server) and FTP: The speed doesn't drop down to 50KBps and stay there - the speed fluctuates according to what I'm assuming, their load levels. So I just let it run, and Mweb manages the speed for me. Much better than some "business hour shaping" I've seen.
Http and https is amazing. I don't have to worry about slow speeds.

Thanks Mweb for making a customer happy :)

waiting patiently for Mweb to process my application+dsl installation at my new place... and deliver my free router :) only sent form in on friday so not complaining - just being impatient

I'd just like to know, how long would it take to have the adsl installation done if Mweb applies on your behalf? I'm weighing up all my options & i'm hearing a lot of horror stories about ppl waiting months on end for a simple adsl line installation.

Good Afternoon Del Piero 10, Telkom has an up to 21 working days SLA for installation for ADSL lines. This could vary though, depending on backlogs for the specific areas.

I did the same last week Wednesday (18/4) and heard nothing until Friday (20/4) and after I escalated it to MWeb Guy I got an sms from Mweb on Saturday saying that the application was processed (thanks MWeb Guy), however, there was no indication as to what needs to happen next or how long it will take so I gave MWeb a call just now and they say it is going to take +- 3 weeks for the ADSL service to be activated on my line. I am sorry but 3 weeks is unacceptable. I canceled the all inclusive package from MWeb and then gave Telkom a call to provision a 1Mb ADSL line, they said it will take 2-5 days maybe sooner depending on workload to activate ADSL. So I will get just the data from MWeb as soon as the line is ready.

I hope Telkom is not lying to me.

So to conclude, for the impatient people out there that do not require a free router, get your line through Telkom.

Cheers!

Thanks Bromario! As Jacques highlighted here, that sort of waiting period is way too long. No wonder broadband connections are overtaking adsl.

I'd like to know why your all inclusive is cheaper than dealing with Telkom because i'd still pay R289pm for adsl line rental.

Well this is the same concern i have & judging by my interaction with Telkom staff, they said what needed to be said to make a sale.

Why has torrents been so dreadfully slow the past few days. I'm getting 5kbs when I'm lucky >:(

Good Afternoon tp3to, is that the speed you obtain on all downloads? When did the drop in speeds start occuring? Is it just torrents being affected?
