Mweb uncapped ADSL thresholds and throttling

I don't have any stake in ISPA but the individuals I know really do try to make the system work as they are aware of the importance of the code of conduct. I wouldn't rush into any conspiracy theories. I am sure MWeb got counsel and threw a lot of legalese into the pot rather than to lose the case.

I am sure a lot of good did come from the case, though.

There is an irony (I guess that's why myBB published this late) that MWeb was the champion of uncapped but is no longer (IMHO) the leader in uncapped.

If the AUP for 2Mb MWeb Standard accounts is 70GB's for R199, then you're better off just buying 100GB's from Afrihost for R199.

I've got all of the papers involve and I am afraid MWEB didn't throw any legalese really at all and ISPA failed outright to adhere to their own timeframes and code. If MWEB did throw in legalese from counsel it was done outside of the confines of proper exchange of papers.

Well, all we know at this point is that the complaint was lodged, and ISPA said it wasn't done properly. Until we see the actual correspondence, you're right - hold off on the conspiracy theory, it could just be as simple a reason as what ISPA said: "complaint did not describe in enough detail where Mweb had infringed the Ispa Code of Conduct"

Agreed. It took me all of 3 minutes. I think I had to do it "the hard way" because it was in the name of my business - fill in a physical form, scan it and email it to them. While this is more difficult than clicking a "cancel" button, it's a lot less effort than going to the shop and buying a sausage roll for lunch.

3 Minutes to get your PA to do it for you?
Oh, and where did you find that cancellation form btw?

I got my PA to get one for me.

No - I phoned to cancel and they emailed me something to sign.

After that I moved to Webafrica who was actually WORSE than Mweb, then on to Afrihost normal, which wasn't much better, and I'm now on Afrihost Business which I really can't complain about.

OK, so not 3 minutes. That phone call alone would have taken time. Mine took around 20 minutes at least.

there is a full thread where you can read the correspondence ;)

I didn't read the whole thread, just a bit past where you said "Complaint to ISPA is in and so next few days we see if ISPA" after saying you had to send by form, couldn't attach your original complaint. I didn't see what you sent to ISPA (ie. the topic of this article) ... If the original complaint is what you sent in, then I have to side with ISPA on not specifying what specifically was infringed.

Edit: Found the ISPA response at
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...-Complaint?p=12537300&viewfull=1#post12537300

And have to wholeheartedly agree with
3.1. The complainant’s submissions were lengthy but unstructured and it was difficult for me to determine the nature of the complaint. Furthermore, while the complainant is not a lawyer and cannot be expected to studiously obey what lawyers themselves often break, he would be well advised to remember that quantity of argument is no substitute for quality.

The "complaint" looked more like an elaborate rant than a specific complaint.

And the death blow, which is disappointing this article didn't quote, but rather alluded to:

While the complainant’s submission is lengthy, it does not contain a succinct argument as to why the member’s conduct infringes the ISPA Code of Conduct.

Have you checked the control panel? http://myadsl.mweb.co.za

Interested to see if you're throttled after 50gb

I signed up before they had the whole control panel thing, so my account isn't linked to my online profile, and last time i tried to get them to do this, they wanted ID verification etc etc... Too much hassle, just going to cancel and move on to someone better, maybe Afrihost, i hear good things.

Make sure you get business uncapped. Their normal uncapped is very erratic, you might wish you'd stayed with Mweb. To their credit, if you complain to Afrihost about speeds they'll move your account to a less contended user pool which sometimes sorts things out, but I feel that users really shouldn't have to go through that. If Mweb did that everyone would cry murder.

I also cancelled my account (4Mbps standard uncaped) with Mweb in August, and moved to OpenWeb Gamers King uncapped 4Mbps, which was a fantastic move.

Like here is an old post of mine where I complained about being throttled on the standard 4Mbps account to 256kbps after hours when I've only done 60GB!

The problem that I had with this whole thing was that MWEB said in their "We may have to slow down your Internet speeds" Email that the throttling would only be applied from 1 September, and then it already kicked in in August! I also had a problem that they were throttling after hours and that the rolling window threshold for the standard 4Mbps uncapped was less than 100GB.

Has there actually ever been a ruling by ISPA against one of it's members? The number of complaints I lodged with ISPA (both in personal and company capacity) have always resulted in either "not having enough information" (despite adequate information being available) or trying to play ping-pong between complainant, ISP and ISPA.

The ISPA is useless. They are nothing but a rubber stamp for their paying customers.

thinking of moving away from mweb

guys im thinking cancelling my mweb as well our email is the most important and mweb want to check a lot for email only from them

who can i use for my email?
im on 1mb uncapped premium - my usage is maximum 30gb a month but i see mweb throttles differently for diff users

Why would you cancel? 1Mbps Premium = 100GB throttle.
