I am SO annoyed! These download speeds are just unacceptable. Yes I should be able to get better speeds from local repos, but I should getter better speeds than this even if I download from China! Thank the Big Man I cancelled this account.

Hi farimir,

Please provide me the opportunity to look into this from our side. I will require the MWEB details, so if you can PM me the details, I will provide you with feedback.

Kind regards,
MWEB Guy

That is to say if its not your Lline / DSLAM conspiring against you.

Thanks packetloss, will give it a try. My bad speed only happens during daytime, so I doubt is Line / DSLAM, but I will get that checked just in case.

I pm'ed my details so lets see if anything changes. I will report back. Unfortunately, the good service I have received from MWEB has been totally ruined by the bad service the last 3 months.

We've had MWeb uncapped since it first came out. It got a little wobbly after a couple of months, but for the past few months it's been brilliant. Everything is flying, it's stable etc. Completely happy :)

Something to bear in mind is that Telkom dslams can become congested during the day when businesses are using them.

My Mweb uncapped works well, so I don't have complaints.

It's important to ascertain the cause of a problem prior to making assumptions ...

What does that mean in layman's terms Copa?

It means that things like torrents and NNTP and certain types of file-sharing sites will generally be slower on uncapped, especially during the day.

As mentioned as well, there is a higher priority for capped users (as in, bandwidth is spread more thinly for uncapped users).

MWEB uncapped has been pretty good, as far as I am concerned. Torrents don't work brilliantly during the day (depending on network load), but tend to fly at night, which is a good time to do downloading in any case. General surfing is pretty good especially recently, as well.

It means that instead of getting the max speed for your line, they crop it to 2/3 or even 1/2. So a 4 Meg line acts like a 2 Meg one and 384 gets reduced to Dialup. (I remember it well).

I think by "night" you mean after 1.30 or 2am. Then at around 6.30 - 7am it slows right down again.

It's highly restrictive to have torrents, games, YouTube and some other things crawling during the day. Even overnight, the speeds are still not as high as they should be.

And this is allowed in terms of their contract? How can they offer you something, you pay for it and then they take part of it away? Am I missing something, as this sounds like a clear breach of contract?
