I've had Mweb uncapped from the start and have been very happy with it since, but for the last 2 weeks i've been trying to download a 600mb file from Hotfile (uploaded video tutorial from a colleague) and it has been crawling at a speed of 2kb/s.

I do understand that Mweb shape during the day (business hours), i have monitored this and it has not changed at all, not even during the evening after 8pm or 10pm for that matter.

If this continues, i will have to cancel this damn account.

I noticed speeds dropping too. Might just be the one particular torrent or a general thing - not sure cause i havnt downloaded anything else.

I know

I was on uncapped Axxess. I canceled it and went to Savvy 20GB for R200. I forgot how fast the internet should be. Uncapped isn't worth it.

Have you tried resetting your router? I was having problems with my AeroVPS downloads, and the support team informed me that MWEB had some sort of problem with some of their IP blocks, but it is now 'resolved'. To make sure you're not assigned to an affected IP, you should either reboot your router (No guarantee you'll get a new IP) or swap realms on your connection by switching to either @dslmweb.co.za or @mweb.co.za, depending on which one you currently use.

Hi DjStyles

Shaping is done 24/7, at night it is just more relaxed but the speeds still depends on the amount of users contending for the filesharing bandwidth
While waiting for our Cape Town IPC link to come online we managed the load by routing some of our customers via SAIX, I suspect that you were one of those affected. Due to the SAIX network being designed for capped accounts it did not allow us the ability to manage the different product sets, basically what this means is that products were able to get more data than what it was intended to get. This came at a huge cost to us however it was a small price to pay to keep our customers happy. Cape Town IPC is now up and running and all customers are back on our IPC network and products can be managed correctly. Let me have your username and I will check if you were one of those affected.

i am on mweb uncapped and never had a problem with speeds, sites like hotfile have huge amounts of users continuosly downloading from them and purposely throttle the free users in order to try and get them to buy "premium" packages which promise much higher transfer speeds

Hi Mweb,

Thanks PM sent.

My conscern is the fact that before , even with throttling, i could at least download a file via Hotfile a "reasonable" speed. Now the download crawls at a max of 2.00kb/s.

Therefore does this mean that we can expect speeds of 0.2Kb/s on well seeded torrents that are downloaded after hours or over weekends from now on? If I switch over to the account I have with another ISP, (also uncapped but shapped), the same torrent will begin downloading at 32kb/s! The advert on the MWeb site for uncapped 384 internet states: "Ideal for video calling, downloads and running a small office", this is hardly true anymore.

Mweb Operations... If the Cape Town IPC is now on-line.. why I am still downloading at 32k a second over the weekends using astroweb.... Before the IPC upgrade I would get 160k average...

How is this upgrade making things better.???

I could not handle the speeds, so I took out an Afrihost capped account last week. I have tried back on MWeb uncapped this morning, and sites are timing out, including my banking. I have restarted my router to no joy.
Afrihost was going full belt, so nothing wrong with my line.

Sorry MWeb, but there is an issue here. You are not dealing with the noob's here.

I have to go back to Afrihost to do my banking now!

I thought it wasn't online yet and when it did come on line all would be back to normal. If its already online and were still getting pathetic speeds.....now what???

I do have a premium account

This means, that you are paying for a 3rd party service, and actually being denied full use of that 3rd party service due to shaping policies.

I have considered a number of premium accounts, but if this is happening then, are they really worth it ?

I agree with you. If this is the 'fixed' service then we may all just as well be on 56k dial-up accounts with the speeds we're getting!

Perhaps when they moved you back onto their network they loaded you as a 384k user;)

Pretty much... i originally had a Rapidshare account and thought maybe the problem was with them and so i changed to Hotfile. Well it seems the problem is definatley with Mweb, as I have now had to resort to buying bandwidth from Afrihost just to download this file. As soon as i changed the account details, the file flew down in record time.

I may have to rethink my account stratergy to move away from Mweb if this is going to be the norm.

Hi DjStyles,

We are still in the process of finalizing our upgrades which should be completed by the end of this week. Please be patient before making any premature decisions.
