Mweb Fon network is dead

Mweb’s Fon network is dead, the company has confirmed to MyBroadband. Quietly shut down in 2018, Fon was a Wi-Fi network concept whose time never came.

Mweb announced its partnership with Fon in January 2014, offering its uncapped ADSL customers free access to the global Wi-Fi network.

I still have that Mweb router at my parents house (reflashed per MyBB forum members guide). Im now using it as a WAP, its a beast vs the Openserve Nokia ONT and so many others I have tried over the years. Specifically for range and wall penetration in a large house. I don't care if on paper the standards it supports are old....real world performance is exceptional by the metrics I mentioned.

Hey guys. So, a good friend of mine was generous enough to give me his old Mweb Router, about 6+ months old. My current ISP is AfriHost. I'm not able to add a new connection. Does anybody know how I can flash the firmware and install something generic? I've tried tutorial on a previous...

Must say this actually worked pretty well at one point when I was travelling internationally and locally and managed to connect to Fon a number of times with my Mweb credentials.

It’s still not a terrible idea if there was just a multi-brand opt-in protocol for it and not this dedicated ISP and Router setup.
