Wi-Fi Drops Completely When Hisense HS3100 Subwoofer is Powered On (Interference Issue)

Hey everyone,

I’m hoping someone here has either experienced this or has ideas to help.

I recently bought the Hisense HS3100 3.1 Channel Soundbar, and while the sound quality is absolutely phenomenal — seriously, immersive and punchy — I’ve been running into a strange and very frustrating issue.

The Problem:
When the subwoofer (yes, just the subwoofer) is plugged in and powered on, my Skyworth UHD Google TV's Wi-Fi completely drops.
Apps like Netflix, YouTube, and Plex stop loading, and speed tests fail or crawl to unusable speeds.

The moment I unplug the subwoofer, everything works perfectly again — even with HDMI ARC or Bluetooth still active. I’ve done a lot of testing to isolate the cause, and here’s what I’ve confirmed:

What I’ve Tried So Far:
  • TV on its own = full internet speed.
  • Soundbar ON, subwoofer OFF = everything still works.
  • Bluetooth audio instead of ARC = same result when subwoofer is ON.
  • Subwoofer plugged into a different room/outlet = no improvement.
  • Wired the TV via Ethernet through a bridge = this works, but isn’t ideal for a smart TV.
  • Swapped HDMI cables = no change.

My Conclusion:

It seems like the wireless link between the soundbar and subwoofer is emitting radio interference that’s either:
  • Overwhelming the TV’s 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio, or
  • Saturating the airwaves near the TV and killing network performance.

I’m genuinely surprised something like this can happen in a modern home theater setup. I’ve reached out to Hisense for support, but I’m curious:

Has anyone else experienced this issue with:
  • The HS3100 soundbar?
  • Other soundbars with wireless subwoofers interfering with Wi-Fi?
  • Skyworth or other TVs being super sensitive to nearby wireless audio links?

If anyone has found a workaround — or even a similar experience — I’d love to hear it.

Change the Wifi channel on your router and next time don't buy Nonsense (Hisense).
 
Put the TV on 5Ghz band, if that is not supported then change the channel of your 2.4Ghz band on the router/AP

Unfortunately, the TV only supports 2.4GHz, so switching to 5GHz isn’t an option.

I’m using a TP-Link Deco M4 mesh system, which automatically optimizes channels to reduce interference. I’ve manually forced channel changes multiple times during testing, but sadly, it doesn’t seem to make any real difference in this case — the issue persists as long as the HS3100 subwoofer is powered on.

I’ve currently hard-wired the TV to the network, and that works perfectly — no interference at all. But of course, it’s not an ideal solution for a smart TV that’s meant to run wirelessly.

I’ve reached out to Hisense support, and I’m hoping they’ll have some insights or even a firmware fix. Will update here if I hear anything useful!

You dont move your tv around, so why would you connect it via wifi as your main connection?

Anything that is a relatively permanent stationary, gets connected via lan, anything mobile is connected via wifi.

Why is it not ideal? Wires > wireless for all purposes other than portable applications.

Maybe the sub has done you a favour - you'll never have another issue with network performance from your TV again, and you've freed up WiFi bandwidth for other things.

Anyway the product still sucks if it's putting out so much EMI. The only other things off the top of my head to test:

1. Run the sub off an isolated supply (like an unplugged inverter.)
2. Run the TV off an isolated supply.
3. Run the soundbar off an isolated supply.
4. See what the effect is on other mobile devices nearby. Is it just the TV WiFi that's affected?
 
Or use a WiFi analyser app. It should show you which channels are in use and overlapping. Maybe the mesh network auto channel change isn't as smart as they make it sound

Congrats, you solved your problem and now you don't have a headache. That's why there's also a LAN port, if it was unnecessary they would've cut it to save costs.

I doubt Hisense can fix anything, because a firmware update to reduce the subwoofer's wireless 2.4GHz range cannot happen because then other customers who need to position it further away would be negatively affected.

Moving the sub further away might improve it.
 
The sub is poorly designed if it’s creating interference to that degree, the FCC WiFi certificate it will have is specifically supposed to ensure it doesn't create interference like that. I’d at the very least get it swopped out.
 
If they are on the same plug separate them and see if that solves the problem.

It may not (directly) be wireless interference, especially since it only happens when it switches on and seems to return to working after.

Oh you did try another outlet.

If you have Ethernet as an option you already have a solution, not sure they you don’t consider it ideal if it solves the problem.

Could still be an issue on the same circuit I guess but if Ethernet solves it I wouldn’t even look any further.

Many manufacturers do omit LAN ports to cut costs.

Yeah, fair point, I get that most people would just plug in LAN for something like a TV.

But in my case, the main router’s in another room, and it gives solid wireless coverage throughout the house. Even on 2.4GHz, I was streaming 4K movies off Plex (with the soundbar off) with no issues at all.

I originally didn’t want to run network cables into the lounge — trying to keep things clean. But eventually I gave in and used an old TP-Link router (the one my wife told me to throw out because I’d “never need it” 😅) to create a WDS bridge from the mesh network and then cabled that to the TV.

Problem solved, yeah — but the average user wouldn’t have gone that far or even known where to start.

The average user would have returned the Hisense soundbar, which is probably still what you should do to be fair.

But leave the TV on Ethernet and wire your home up properly, like a man!
