MWEB's online gaming plans

Is there any good news in that article for online console gaming or are we still out in the cold?

Nobody does as much for internet in SA as MWeb does. Plain and simple. Their big, their tough and they've got the right stuff. Any of you little whiners who expect MWeb to walk on water to bring you internet nirvana yesterday really need to start looking at the facts of the SA internet landscape and who has been doing the heavy lifting. And to anybody still supporting Telkom and it's internet deals.. Well... All I can say is your a bunch of dumb-ass gits for signing a year/2year contract with scum. Cry me a friggen river.

hmmm i smell an mweb fanboy,

but yeah would be nice if this made a dent in the whole gaming arena but we gonna need allot more effort which i think is
possible if the ISPs all got 2gether and worked on it ... those that already have peering setup

Right you are lol :D

I should apologize for the flaming troll post. I don't usually resort to it. It's just that I feel quite strongly about the role mweb has played in SA internet in the past few years and I for one would like to see more people support them. Calling people little b_tches probably won't help though :D

WoW ping to the EU servers via Mweb CT link is great, it could obviously be better but people are complaining about nothing.

So what is a good ping to have or a reasonable one at that? I.m.o. about 200 - 250ms if you are situated in Gauteng and routing to Europe at the moment. The states will be a bit higher at about 300ms. 500ms is just suicide for a FPS online session or any online games almost.

Lets hope this new area of exploration brings to light that the online gaming community in South Africa is big and has reasonable demands that needs to be met. Up the bandwidth made available to the gaming community as well as be more leanient with port shaping during certain times of the day and give the gamers what they want. Better latency all round and get the SAIX peering issue sorted out so that everyone has the experience they deserve.

In my opinion ping should just be below 400. The only setting I ever found that made a difference to my WoW performance was the MTU value on my router config. MWeb support told me to set it to 960 and after doing that my WoW experience is just perfect.

Just drop the 10Mbps uncapped prices!! ****!

This would be nice hey!

However, unfortunately this makes NO difference with Black Ops. I have a 10M line (but a telkom account :( ) and my ping is very high at about 200ms.

Thank goodness for trafficsplitter and a local only openweb account. (Which drops my ping to about 20ms)
