MXit Apps development

MXit today launched a beta version of its API (application programming interface), which gives entrepreneurs and software developers the ability to create applications for the platform.

Is there any real value in building apps on top of this platform??? Granted its the most used social networking service in SA. But its benefits are for SA only???
Anyone care to comment?

By choosing C# as a language doesn't stop support of everyone, nor does it make it non-open. It's just a language. If it were java, it would need the vm, so why would C# be considered any different? Coz it's Microsoft, perhaps?

Can the free C# IDE be used to develop apps for this?

Also, hosting on Windows servers costs more than hosting on Linux servers.

You can run .net assemblies in Linux. Just compile under Mono. Technically you interfacing with WCF. Your endpoints and bindings are all that matter. Its not runtime/platform specific. You wont be hosting the service, just communicating. You can plug whatever back-end you want on your side.

And Yes SharpDevelop (free c# ide) will work.

Check out MS Website Spark. Great value.
