MXit, a free mobile messaging platform, has grown to 2.3 million users is just under 2 years.
But it seems that it is really still only an ideal opportunity for advertisers wanting to capture a young market with 12-18 years old being the dominant age group accounting for 44% of the MXit user base.
It's not free - I think it's around 2c/message iirc.
Yip, very true. Some people at my class go on Mxit in lessons. I still don't get the allure of Mxit though...using an IM [MSN/GTalk/Yahoo] is much simpler and 'free'.
You'd see me learn how to program java for a mobile platform overnight with a application which interfaces with mxit for free ... with adsimagine if they had to charge everone 5 rand to continue using mxit.........they would earn quite a bit! everyone would pay the 5 rand
imagine if they had to charge everone 5 rand to continue using mxit.........they would earn quite a bit! everyone would pay the 5 rand
Apparently most Mxit users are kids, so I don't think they'd be able to charge R5 per message very long.
I think he meant a R5 subscription. I'd pay R5 per month to keep on using it. But I think they will eventually make more money with advertising, although I am worried it may increase the amount of data traffic when you use mxit thus increasing the costs.
