Parental priorities
Blaming anything else but themselves = failed parents
Unfortunately this is the source of much discontent.
Priorities:
The family in the year 1950
The father worked. He was called a breadwinner.
He went to work everyday till about 6pm.
He worked 5 to 6 days a week.
The mother worked at home.
She cleaned, cooked, did sewing and knitting or other crafts, baking and gardening (veggies and herbs), but most importantly she raised their children herself.
Children were thus raised by parents with the same cultural, religious and intellectual values of the parents.
Children inherited the values and beliefs of the parents directly.
The family in the year 2010
Father works, hardly home, very busy, tv, internet, newspaper, admin, sports, children.
Mother works, hardly home, very busy, beauty, health, tv, chat, magazines, children.
Children are thus raised by maids, aftercare workers, teachers, and only part-time by their mothers & fathers.
In this new modern scenario, children form much more their own identitities and cultural preferences, they garner this from peers and the global media - tv/mtv/internet and so on.
Many parents today, because their time is limited, no longer spend the required amount of time it takes to guide and take care of the modern teenager.
Many years ago, I took my young son to a doctor and I asked him about my son eating a lot of sweets and whether he could be diabetic, fortunately my son is not diabetic, but the doctor did give me an excellent piece of advise, he said:
"Remember, your child eats what you give to eat." and he smiled at me, and I never forgot those words.
That important message, that the parent is vital in forming the child, if you give sweets - the child will eat sweets, if you give veggies - the child will eat veggies, if you read to a child - the child will like reading - if you give your child a cellphone - the child will use the cellphone.
Parents are responsible for the behaviour of their minor children.
This is entrenched in law.
The child is considered a minor by law.
Some countries this age is 16, or 18 or 21.
Parenting is a vital function in society.
The child is the first in the chain of events that become the source of discontent in society.
Every child is born innocent, how do some become murderers and some rapists and some bullies and thieves ?
Parents (could & should) have the greatest influence on the forming of the core character of the child, regarding moral and ethical values.
