MXQ Pro 4K Android TV Box & Rii Mini i8 Multimedia Wireless Keyboard compatibility

Hi guys.

I have a MXQ Pro 4K Android TV Box which I have been trying to pair with my Rii Mini i8 Multimedia Wireless Keyboard. I've watched many youtube videos and seen this being done successfully. For some or other reason i cannot get mine to work.

i have plugged the usb bluetooth keyboard dongle into all the usb slots available and still no connectivity. The usb slots are in working order as I've tested it with other usb devices. the wireless remote and dongle works as I have tested it on my laptop and playstation.

any suggestions???

I have a similar problem - airmouse used to work fine untill the box just suddenly stopped working. Removing the dongle for the airmouse solves the issue, box works perfectly. Reattaching and the box "breaks". MXQ 4k running android 7. Tested on 2 seperated boxes, same result. Why would the dongle shut the box down completely?
