Hi all,

maybe some here can shed some light on my adsl problems.
It started about a month ago when I had a total line fault.
( after the line ran for about a decade with no problems )

Then telkom "fixed" it, but my download speeds are now terrible.
O have a 10 mbit line and now my downloads are max. 120kb.

my provider gave me a very close ip address to run tests with winMTR
and I have approx. 5% packet loss and also high latency of approx. 100ms average,
while the provider says 20ms should be normal.

Telkom off course says everything is perfect. :(
And they refuse to investigate further.

this is what my asus adsl modem gives me as stats:

get the free afrihost account and do the test, or it could be congestion on the d-slam.

I recently diagnosed a problem in Midrand, some modems default to PTM (which if implemented properly is good, but not telkom), change that back to ATM, the extra overhead is not all that much compared to the extra throughput.

Thanks, but I can't find anything about PTM in the settings of the ASUS DSL-N10_C1.

But I have also still two old d-link modems; they still work but after about an hour or so they crash; and they crash so hard that even my internal network goes down. However these old Dlink modems have exactly the same problems, so i don;t think it has anything to do with my modem.

All of a sudden all problems are gone. :) its downloading again with line speed. They must have fixed it at Telkom.
