My after hours project

fixed the weird search page spacing issues on mobile. some copy paste css error was causing it.

will look at removing the default options on the reviews and also there is a weird alignment issue on the add a company page.

the Google login redirect loop issue is intermittent but still an issue. have no clue why

i have decided to put a dev freeze on new features for the next few days while I clean some code out.

i began skimping on my tests as well and im not happy with that. the solution isnt that big or complex and theres no reason it shouldn't be tested other than laziness.

Good idea. Once you let the tests go, it's difficult to catch up.

been writing tests. a lot of tests. so far am almost done testing the review process. started there as it's the most complex system and it's the one i want to know about when something goes wrong.

bizarrely it seems all my maths was right and I'm calculating the scores correctly.

am also looking at maybe redoing the home page as it's kinda crappy.

i was super stoked i managed to get rob conery (@robconery) to take a look and give me his feedback, which he did and i will be implementing.

had 2 american visits, 1 i assume was rob since is was hawaii, the other was from new york so i have no clue. had a few from australia and new zealand who i assume were some friends i asked to take a look and then it's all south africa. except for one person from afghanistan who was redirected via mybroadband???

weird.

like i said the logic is fairly complete so you guys can start reviewing away. i will do my absolute best to not wipe your data.... :)

one question that's been bugging me is how important is your anonymity when it comes to these reviews? are you ok with a company knowing what you think of them good or bad?

it would be a cool and handy thing for a place you're applying to to look at your profile on the site and see what aspects are important to you.

but worst case with going public is some kind of backlash at work ..

Negative (read truthful) reviews aren't going to come unless the anonymity is there. That's all I have to say about that. :-)

i have decided to be pragmatic regarding my unit testing. a large portion of the site is pretty much boilerplate stock mvc code so im not going to test it all that much...

as i said before the actual reviewing code and score calculation is the most complex and really the most critical. if it's buggy i need to know asap.

it's almost complete so i took a break last night and bought a nice theme from bootstrapwrap last night and am busy giving the site a bit of a facelift and sorting out the responsive issues.

now i just need to come up with marketing blah blah blah text...

that weird login redirect loop keeps rearing its head every now and again.

i thought it had to do with rollouts but it doesn't. and some other people on stack overflow have experienced similar issues

so far the fix is to restart the site and then retry. really weird

i have asked a few friends to test the site and a problem with the sites flow has emerged.

the point of the site is to review companies. but the one thing the front page doesn't have is a button to review companies.

it's got a button to search companies instead. right now the worst case is you search, then add, then view then review a company. if it sounds long and complicated it's prolly coz it is. google has most people leaving at the 2nd or 3rd step. i would prolly do the same one someone else's site...

it's messed up and it's my fault. i am changing it so the first review step is to select or add a company then answer some questions then submit.

it's harder coding and more complex but it's a far better user experience. and i should have done that from the start.

we are trying to as much as possible. read on to where i dev froze for weeks to catch up and redesign in a test friendly manner.

in that particular case my tests were passing and so were his, we just hadn't merged yet

the problem with deployment from within visual studio is that it's easy to roll out changes without merging first...

also that particular break had to do with the infrastructure more than anything else..

one thing that would make a killing is a cloud hosted build server.. id pay for a hosted teamcity instance..

Right.
