My Blackberry Z10 experience and problems

Cannot Sync Z10 with my Calender or Contacts on Outlook on USB or bluetooth. Surely that is a key functional requirement of a smartphone these days. Their link software doesnt even have the option. On BB website, its says its not available just yet.

R6000 on gumtree.
Guy @ Cell C said there cost price is R6500

Esquire is selling them for R5299 excluding vat(If I recall correctly with vat came to around R6299 at Incredible Connection/Game they selling them for R7000, would rather buy it outright on Vodacom have peace of mind with their extended warranty in case the phone goes bonkas and purchase a 2gig x 12(R1499 outright) http://www.vtime.co.za/index.php/pay-upfront-and-get-data-every-30-days-for-a-year

Also noticed PnP new brochure they selling them at R8500. I am thinking 1 of 2 things they bought the stock well in advanced before the dollar strengthen

You would really sync your Calendar and Contacts with the Cloud. For example I have a Google Apps account to which I sync my contacts/calendar. You can do the same with regular email. I don't think nowadays it is necessary to do desktop sync, considering that we are now always mobile...

Are you on Outlook Exchange? Just enter your details in the account setup and it all syncs perfectly.

My mom just received her Z10, upon the first start up it asked for a Wi-Fi connection to update (i was confused because you guys had to take it to the outlet/store to update) but hers updated to 10.0.10.82 (130MB) took about 30min on our ADSL.

I also noticed the compass was way off, i changed the timezone to Harare +2 but that dint seem to help.

only wifi i used in store was when starting up the fone and it asked to accept terms n condition (used Cell C in store wifi which took forever)

previous Software updates was done @ work and @ home not in store.

Last night CellC pushed 10.0.10.99 (I was on 10.0.10.2 via Vodacom before - that was 150MB). Te 10.0.10.99 was around 50MB.

Took the plunge and ported to CellC ;-)

There was an update to BB Link yesterday which allows you to sync from Outlook to your phone via USB. I'm not sure about bluetooth, did not test it myself.

Maybe it's time to post a quick note on what apps everyone uses or still needs:
- Social: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare
- Messaging: BBM (hardly ever use), WhatsApp (seldom)
- News: Flipboard - sideloaded and my favorite, CrackBerry App (for BB10 news), gNewsReader (I prefer Reeder on OS X)
- Navigation: Waze (its the Android port and I had 3 good days with it and this morning two crashes/hangs)
- Financial: SBSA Banking (dreadful, Steve will fix it)

What's missing:
- A proper backgroundable alarm app with multiple alarms
- A lock-screen like iOS or Android - just popping up an input field is a mess
- Notifications on the lock-screen (I frequently miss calls or SMS)
- Although the Hub is good, it clutters
- 1Password (I use the OS X version - just realised today that I used it frequently on iOS)
- Navigon or similar offline navigation - I don't trust Waze enough

I am getting my 64GB card this weekend (I think the ones priced on bidorbuy are a bargain - saw the same card at DionWired for 1,5K).

What apps is everyone else using?

I just got the Sandisk 64GB card for 730 bucks (now it's close to 800, but still cheaper than most places locally).

The card works like a bomb and received great reviews from other users.

updated to Cell C 10.x.x.99
Was 138MB
Installed Whatsapp today.
Will update as i use more apps.

MagicDude - how u find battery life with .99 update?
any other changes u notice with latest Cell C update?

tnx

Thanks! Will be keepimg my eye on this. Due for an upgrade soon... Currently have 9900

hows everyone enjoying there Z10's?
any issue u guys picked up since the .99 update?

my Z10 working well and no issues to report.

Enjoying it. Wouldn't switch off last night though. Every time I held power to switch off, it started up again. Had to pull the battery to stop it switching on. Otherwise good experience except the disastrous cell c Internet problems.

Works well, although the original issues are still not resolved. Battery lasts awesome long - I have never had the need to charge it at the end of the day - in most cases it lasts almost 2 days solid. I have zero CellC internet problems and have switched off WiFi.

Biggest gripe is the lack of multiple alarms, the lack of proper notifications (iPhone did this better - don't know how many SMS or calls I missed). The SMS notifications are also crap (need to find that iPhone "beep-beep" sound). The hardware is solid and all issues are software related which will hopefully be fixed with the OS refresh end of April.

I have a alpha Q10 and the device is awesome if you need a physical keyboard and for the messaging guys, the Q10 will rock. Q10 feels rock-solid as well (although I wouldn't buy it, since I find the scree to be too small). Another gripe is the lack of native apps.

BTW: If you use Waze (which is on the App world, but an Android port), the app will crash often. I found that you will have no crashes if you (a) turn off 3d visualisation and (b) only start Waze with your Wifi off (it seems that Waze uses Wifi and once you are in the car, switches to 3G and then blows chunks).
