One of my mates who is heavy into photography, and by that I do not mean just plain snaps, he logs 10 000 images a month easily, says you should try CameraTek, but don't hold your breath.
They lost one of his cameras, which they replaced - good on them, but he had to send in his Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 L lens in a couple of times to get it fixed.

If you are in the Joburg area take in the camera with a few samples and ask them for a quote first?
What model is this Canon?

Canon SX110i ... the new upgraded is only R2,800.00 - which is why I'd be concerned about how much to fix it. But I can get a quote - I'll look em up.

I've heard people talk about burnt sensors or something. What is this?

Are you sure with your Canon, you not doing a George Bush on us?

I had my Canon point & click camera in my pocket and smashed the view thingy glass, anyhow dropped it off at Canon in Midrand at the time and they repaired it gratis - very nice of them, also was out of warranty - though I'm guessing they just sent it to Cameratek.
