On my desktop, on usb I have problems. you cannot copy huge files from the two.
Also my printer, when xp was new it works, but after installing programs I had to update the printer driver. From last week my printer do not print a full page.

Also when copy from a cell phone on usb, and its big files it stop at some stage.

I print the same file using my laptop and it works 100%.

any ideas what I can look for.
 
found in device manager that I got a Via usb controller. Don't know which driver to get, wonder if I must open the case. It's deep down.
 
those problems are very vague, a printer not printing could be a million things (judging by your post, check that you have the right drivers installed)
 
Sounds like a problem with your OS/USB or very slight chance damaged USB ports.
 
Yes, same printer, same driver, same os [xp]

You dont get a "loop thing" to test usb like on a comm port.
 
Before reinstalling XP, fire up a live Linux desktop; I'm guessing in this case a live-CD; and observing how USB behaves under a known CLEAN (in terms of corrupted driver, etcetera) driver.

Here's a parallel for my rationale: I've got a pair of Dell 620 desktops out there that now refuse to play DVDs all the way through; thing is they USED TO. So, on the lesser (graphically) specced one I fired up my Mint live-USB and gave a coupla DVDs a whirl ..and bugger me if both of them didn't work - and perfectly, no matter how I dicked around going back and forth trying to get the movie player to break. But, on the subsequent XP reboot we were right back into dog-awful stuttery, unplayable DVD ..from which I gather that the pretty damn ancient hardware is just fine and dandy thank you, and the XP install has borked itself somehow.

But now I have something useful and have a way out.
 
Go to device manager and uninstall serial bus controllers and USB hubs, than reboot and windows will re-install them, it often solves the problem.
 
took machine long time ago to comp shop with the printer. Their it printed fine. Play with mem stick and it works fine. Then came home and same story.
Now my wife once to print a birthday card and I have problems.
 
Last night, wasting 10 pages to try and print. printer prints 2 cm and stop. Did try another printer before, same story.

This morning, start up computer and prints normal.
The computer does stand in a close space, maybe try to move it out for a while.
 
How big are the files that you want to copy to the usb? remember, if it has a fat32 file system, then you cannot copy files bigger than 4Gig.
