So I downloaded this supposedly nice looking distro which is based on Debian but with enlightment and compiz working together. Wanting to have a look at it, I rebooted my work desktop and started the live cd. What a suprise! It really looks nice.
I played around a bit and since there is a co-worker wanting to start playing with linux, I called him over. His first reaction was WOW. That runs smoothly on our machines where winxp is already struggling.
There is obviously some nice development happening in the world of linux, away from the big distros. (I am a long time Fedora/Redhat user and have played a bit with Suse and Ubuntu)
For those who wants to take a look at the beta: http://www.elivecd.org/
