My experience with Showmax

So I just canceled my free 3 month Showmax subscription. You want to know how much of Showmax I managed to watch in that time? An unbelievable one episode of Parks And Recreation. The streams constantly buffered on my 2mb line even on lowest settings yet on Netflix I had no issues. I tried using the mobile app similar issues plus constant app crashes, tried several times to download episodes but the episodes would not play apart from that one time Parks and Rec worked. Whenever I tried using Showmax I always ran into an issue and always went back to Youtube and Netflix within 5 minutes which just worked.

mmmig, it's not Showmax's fault you've got a crap line. For what it's worth I also recently cancelled my three month Showmax trial, although it worked perfectly on my 10Mbps line. My problem with it is the poor range of content and ancient movies (seriously I've seen movies classed as 'New' that were introduced in the 1980's). That said it wasn't such a bad experience, it got me watching The Office US (although they only had the first five seasons) and I downloaded the rest from other "sources". So thanks Showmax, nice trial, but you'll need better content.

Lately Showmax is just about unwatchable (it was fine up to January), yet my Netflix is running perfectly at 720/1080.

Works fine on my 10Mbps line as does NetFlix. I'm happy to pay for both as long as it keeps the family entertained :)

With this one, yes the content is shocking, but don't blame Showmax for your crappy line, even with Kodi you will struggle with a 2mb line

I sometimes got 720p on Netflix on certain programs yet Showmax buffered on the lowest setting.

Yep, better value than DSTV and you can spend the rest of the R800 you would have spent on DSTV on drinks when watching sports at the pub.

If you're trying to save money, what can you find on Showmax that you can't just download? I get it if you're Afrikaans though, they seriously got all the ancient Afrikaans stuff you won't find anywhere else outside of Leon Schuster's personal cupboard of VHS tapes. Orkney Snork Nie is on there, seriously.

Are you promoting piracy?

Use the R700 to get better internet..

But there is already internet, it is a commodity like electricity. So must the family now trawl through amitandvimalsmobilemovies.com for their content with hit and miss poor quality watermarked content, some poorly translated as well? If you don't see the value in Netflix or Showmaxthen don't buy it.

Just get a Android box, I do see the value of Netflix. But don't complain when you have dismal data speeds. Upgrade and get on with it

I have a very different view to ShowMax. Been with them for 13 months & for 99 ZAR I am more than happy.

I primarily DL ShowMax content on my iPad that I want to watch & hence no steaming issues. I do the DL's at work or at home after midnight (I have Telkom capped ASDL).

I find the selection of content does vary from crap to good.

Recently I have been going through Oscars section of old movies I have not seen.

What I like about them without fail is "new" content is added every 3/4 days.

One plus as oppose to Netflix is that *all* content can be saved offline. I believe for Netflix their offline selection is limited.

I usually I'm able to find an (older) movie I have not seen before.

So for my particular needs the 99 ZAR jobbie gets a thumbs up from me & I find no need to cancel.

As always YMMV.

My wife do Getroud met rugby and Binnelanders. They are on kyknet and kyknet is on dstv, so for that reason I will have to stay with dstv.
