Are you promoting piracy?

There are other options. Local Netflix is okay. Amazon Prime, Hulu, Sling, HBO Now, BBC iPlayer etc with UnoTelly aren't bad.

Nevertheless, I feel like series and movies are not where they should be for legal consumption. Music, books & games have awesome and affordable options available, and as such I can't remember the last time I pirated any of them. Marvel Unlimited makes comic books really affordable too. There is no comprehensive on-demand fixed rate option to get all the movies and/or series.

Considering the rights that Multichoice has, ShowMax should be a killer service. All their movies and series should be available for streaming. And people who link a DSTV subscription should be able to stream every single DSTV channel too in HD.

Naspers owns Multichoice and Showmax though they are separate entities, they do not share licenses.
Now that's out of the way. I'm close to canceling Showmax mainly for lack of new content and only having a few seasons of shows, like Community and Veep.
Though it did get me into Parks and Rec, Community and Veep :)

I have a very different view to ShowMax. Been with them for 13 months & for 99 ZAR I am more than happy.

I primarily DL ShowMax content on my iPad that I want to watch & hence no steaming issues. I do the DL's at work or at home after midnight (I have Telkom capped ASDL).

I find the selection of content does vary from crap to good.

Recently I have been going through Oscars section of old movies I have not seen.

What I like about them without fail is "new" content is added every 3/4 days.

One plus as oppose to Netflix is that *all* content can be saved offline. I believe for Netflix their offline selection is limited.

I usually I'm able to find an (older) movie I have not seen before.

So for my particular needs the 99 ZAR jobbie gets a thumbs up from me & I find no need to cancel.

As always YMMV.

Showmax is not local, evey stream is from a diffent country. So you may or may not be lucky to get a good experience.

If you're trying to save money, what can you find on Showmax that you can't just download? I get it if you're Afrikaans though, they seriously got all the ancient Afrikaans stuff you won't find anywhere else outside of Leon Schuster's personal cupboard of VHS tapes. Orkney Snork Nie is on there, seriously.

Are you promoting wasting money on Showmax?

So much for all that law abiding to the speed limit if you are just a criminal like the rest of us at the end of the day.

My god man, do you love the taste of straw? How does my internet usage affect your safety? No? It doesn't? Oh, so you just missed the point then.

I don't believe for a second that they don't share the licences.

Sure they might operate the companies independently on paper but they also arenty stupid to piss money away.

Life is complex, who'd have thought. I'll never do something to place somebody else at harm for the sake of my own arrogance, unlike you.

I never said I was a tailgater....

And yet you put yourself in harm's way precisely through your own arrogance of wanting to impose the law on others in your personal capacity.

Stealing the food off someone's table is far worse an offense than someone going slightly over the speed limit.

But you'll do what you want in your own arrogance anyway, yet judge others endlessly for doing the same.

Yip Sauron, I'll rather defend the pirates than the speedsters anyday, and it looks like we've both picked our sides. I'm happy with mine, are you really happy with the type of people who fall into your category?

mmmig, it's not Showmax's fault you've got a crap line. For what it's worth I also recently cancelled my three month Showmax trial, although it worked perfectly on my 10Mbps line. My problem with it is the poor range of content and ancient movies (seriously I've seen movies classed as 'New' that were introduced in the 1980's). That said it wasn't such a bad experience, it got me watching The Office US (although they only had the first five seasons) and I downloaded the rest from other "sources". So thanks Showmax, nice trial, but you'll need better content.

And of course you understood they meant new on the platform cause you are smart :)

Is copyright infringement downloads of media for private consumption a crime now in SA? You'll have to provide some supporting evidence. Uploading or selling it is a crime though.
