I am doing my first ADSL setup. I am well into the setup, but I am having problems getting connected.
ISP: Telkom DoBroadband Level 2
Router: D-Link DSL 2460U router/modem (I upgraded firmware to 1.22, but have tried with 1.12 and 1.20)
So far:
My ADSL line has been activated.
I have entered the correct settings for the WAN connection through the D-Link web based setup (the settings are correct according to two D-Link techies and a Telkom techie).
I ran the diagnostics for the router and everything, except Ping primary Domain Name Server, passed.
I was able to get to the www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl and I verified my line successfully.
After that, my internet is still not working. I can't even get to the www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl site again.
I ran the diagnostics again and this time things aren't looking as healthy as it did before:
Diagnostics:
Test your ENET(1-4) Connection: PASS
Test your Wireless Connection: PASS
Test ADSL Synchronization: PASS
Test ATM OAM F5 segment ping: FAIL
Test ATM OAM F5 end-to-end ping: FAIL
Test PPP server connection: FAIL
Test authentication with ISP: PASS
Test the assigned IP address: FAIL
Ping default gateway: FAIL
Ping primary Domain Name Server: PASS
Over the past 3 days I have called D-Link and Telkom several times, and the only advice they could give me was to have Telkom reset the line at the exchange.
They have done this, but it has made no difference. They both say my setup is correct and can't understand why it is still not working and can't provide any
more help. They can't even tell me if it is the router or the ADSL line that is causing the problem.
If anyone could shed some light on this issue, that would be much appreciated.
