My first Mac is coming next week

You're gonna love your Macbook pro. The backlit keyboard alone is one of the coolest features.

+1 Moving away from windows and onto Mac and OSX four years ago, was like jumping off an ox wagon and climbing into an Escalade (not a Jag, Roux :D )

Best damn hardware, software and user interface I have ever had the pleasure of working on, in 30 years of computing

Yes, its not hard at all. Its a myth that Macs are harder to fix. I upgraded my old Macbook myself and now my 15" Macbook Pro also has 500GB HDD and 4GB RAM. MBPs are a bit harder to do though coz you have to deal with about 20 screws but a DIY with pics is easy to find on google.

I was going to do a hackintosh when I sold my macbook but couldn't resist a good deal on a 2.5Ghz macbook pro. Its up for sale if anyone has R10k for it. Macs are addictive, so beautiful! I want a unibody now!

What did it cost you to upgrade to 500 GB HDD and 4GB RAM ? I bought a new 15" i7 unibody while in the USA, it replaced my old 2008 15 " MacBook Pro. I would like to upgrade my old 15 " MBP, and use it at the office.

As cheap as components from any local shop or online store, it does not have to come from apple or a apple dealer.
 
Saw this thread this morning and upgraded my mac's HDD to the one in the link, feels much faster, used to have the 5400 RPM drive.

Sorry dude; why don't you try your hand at a hackintosh, by converting your windows pc to run osx; there's a few people on the forum that can help.

Go for it, its not expensive. There's always a good deal around. I got my 2x 2GB dimms for R600 on gumtree and I buy external hard drives from China for cheap so I just took a 500GB (WD Scorpio blue) out the casing, popped it in the MBP and it worked. Pretty much any hard drives seem to work in MBPs as long as they are the right RPM.

Unibodies are much easier to upgrade than the older MBPs. Only 8 screws to take out so for those of you wondering about doing it, go ahead.

I guess they did now that I think about it.

I might see if I can get it through work and get them to pay for it and I pay them back monthly
