My Iphone 3G is fully unlocked

On Friday I was one of those that went in to buy the Iphone 3G at Vodashop Brooklyn. After a massive fight over the price first of all, I then sprung on them that I intended on using my MTN SIM with the phone.

That then made them tell me things like, in chronological order:
b) It wont work with MTN - they lock the Iphone to ONE simcard (I then accused them of network locking cellphones, then I said well lock it to my MTN SIM please...), then
c) Data will not work with MTN (I told them to STFU), then
d) If I ever decide to use Vodacom with the Iphone I have to come in so they can unlock the SIM and put in the new one.

Well, I dont know what to believe, cos I just put in a VOdacom simcard myself now and everything works fine. Put the MTN SIM back in and works as usual.

So are local Iphone 3G's completed unlocked? I dont have any Virgin or Cell C's to try in it but it really seems that way. Its amazing how much bull**** they tell you. Either that or they just plain ignorant.
 
From the FAB support I have been receiving from the Vodashops...they are just plain STUPID!
 
Maybe the staff are just not trained on the Iphone at all... that's my guess.

They've been told "one thing" but actually, it's not true, but they've just been told to say that.

Remember, most people will believe what someone at a cellphone shop tells them.
 
The phone is not fully unlocked. The phone is originally locked, and can only be unlocked with a specific Vodacom simcard. But once that phone has been unlocked you can then use any sim to use the phone. If you update to new software you going to need that original sim to unlock again, then insert your own sim.
 
Could they mean the phone is registered to iTunes or other dedicated services through Vodacom?

Nope. When I first plugged it into Itunes I upgraded from 2.0.x to 2.1 with my MTN SIM inside. Still worked without me having to go into Vodashop. Im virtually certain its 100% unlocked.
 
This is quite interesting...I read about someone who bought an iPhone in Denmark and had the same experience...any techies with insight?
