Hey guys,

Once again my line has reached the stage where it constantly just loses sync :(
I was 100% sure that this was always an issue with the weather giving my line grief, but now, this whole thing started again and we have experienced no rain, yet maybe some slight winds.

About 6 months ago I suffered from that "4mb line running at 512k" issue, a techie sorted it out, and my SNR downstream margin was the best it had ever been, sitting at about 18db.
It had remained like that up till today!

My router kept losing sync and I checked my line details were as follows:
noise margin downstream: 8.0 db
attenuation downstream: 25.5 db

My noise margin suddenly dropped to 8db and my router cannot even sync at 4mb anymore, everytime it resyncs at a different speed, between 2mb and 4mb.
If I pick up my phone, there is a ton of noise on the line.
I have checked all my filters and the router as well.

Logged a complaint with Telkom and am now waiting once again. :(

This is getting EXTREMELY annoying, and its something I have to continually call telkom out to fix every few months.

Any Ideas what I should do to try get this resolved for good?
Anything at all would be much appreciated.

Thanx in advance

EDIT: Line lost sync about 5 times during the typing of this message...sigh :(

Lol...seems I killed my own thread :D

Anyways...Telkom Techie came out and sorted it out, hopefully it will last longer than 3 months :p

It ended up being a problem on one of the Telephone Poles in my area.
The entire inside of the box was corroded, and he replaced it :)

My SNR downstream is now up to 26db...which I'm extremely happy with on a 4mb line :)

Please post DETAILS of who you called, who you spoke to, what you said etc. to get the techie to come out because all the guys I called out have no clue how to diagnose an ADSL problem.

Post phone numbers, names...details! :)

Well...actually I didn't phone anyone at all :o

I logged the fault online via the Telkom website. I really didn't feel like phoning them again :p

When I logged the fault online, I wrote the following details with it aswell:

"There is a continuous Loss of sync on the line. The line syncs for a few minutes, then loses sync over and over again.
The 4mb Line has been running perfectly for the past few months until now.
Filters on the phones have been checked and swapped with new ones, but problem continues.
Router has also been checked and changed and there are no problems with it.
If I check ADSL line stats via my router, the Downstream Noise Margin appears very low (6.0 db)
There also appears to be a lot noise on the telephone line if I listen.
Please resolve ASAP"

A few days later I got a phone call asking for the details of the problem and I answered the same, saying that there was a lot of noise on the line and I was continuously losing sync. I did stress the point that the line had been running fine until now....because they tend to find a simple solution by just downgrading your line speed.

The techie came over to my place, checked the line from my house with his gadgets, then headed to the telephone poll in the street next to mine and sorted the problem out. ;)

I'm really not sure of his name, but I think it was Markus if I remember correctly.

Unfortunately I cannot give more details than that. Hope it helps. :)

Thank you very much, I'll try the online fault reporting service with my next attempt. :D

I updated the links recently on the thread I started, check it out ;)

Pleasure bro ;)

I've reported 2 issues. One Voice Fault, one ADSL. Voice was sorted, never even got a call for the ADSL. It was a complaint about slow speeds/PPPoE connection that drops every second month or so though, not a physical line/adsl problem :p
