So exam procrastination got the better of me so I made this site.

http://parcelcheck.co.za

or new

http://parcelcheck.org!

Still a bit buggy but does the job.

Basically just enter a SAPO tracking number and your email and it will send you updates about your parcel in real time about where it is.

Haven't got around to other tracking services yet such as UPS and the others.

Next time you order something online, give this a try with your tracking number :)

Let me know what you think..

edit:

So after a good amount of effort the new ParcelCheck is up and running supporting lots of new couriers as well as being able to manage parcel notifications in myTracker

edit 2:

New video I made with quick summary, enjoy :)

just curious, you do know that you are violating the copyright of the SA Post Office logo by using their logo...? Before SAPO see this, I suggest changing your logo... ASAP. Also the red text on grey is very hard on the eyes. Don't have a tracking number to test the tracking though...

OH I see you knocked off the entire logo design, I would really change this asap... you do not want a legal team on your ass!

Haha I thought so.. changing now lol

OMG!! i was hoping there was something like this and BAM!! you made it. <3 to you.

I will most certainly be using this for all my future tracking needs.

For future suggestions, i want to see an iOS App (possibly others may want one too for themselves on Android etc) and yes we would paid about a $1 for your work (for more than 1x item tracking you pay to get that added??).

I haven't even opened the site...goes off. Just typing my mind out...when you have time then you can let us know :D.

Mad props to our local devs :)

Open up a simple API of sorts (I'm thinking parcelcheck.co.za/[email protected]&ref=43243243) and I will throw a Windows Phone app together and publish it free. Just as a nice companion to the site.

A suggestion: I just tracked a parcel that I know is at the post office waiting, but it didn't email to tell me. It would be nice if it didn't require it to move somewhere, and sent you a current status upon confirming your email address.

p.s. how annoying is it that post offices aren't 24/7?! I got a freaking parcel waiting for me and I have no clue what it is :(

Hmm will see whats causing the problem. Did you add the parcel while its already at the PO? It will only email when there is a status change on the parcel.

I did think about an API, maybe even something that spits out an XML file.

Hmm an app just to add the parcel to track?

Cool and also very similar to http://www.parceltrack.co.za/

You are right, but mine emails updates(well should if there is not a bug).

Thanks for all the feedback.

So far for improvements(planned to do major improvement in June) I am gonna get an API going for easy access from apps.

I am thinking maybe more of the business side where I can offer my API for businesses who send and receive a lot parcels access to software where they can view all their parcel updates in real time in such a way that it could eventually(with enough data) predict average times to and from locations and keep the business and customer informed of where items are. Not just the SAPO but from a number of well known, trusted couriers.

I have had a few parcels which go "unnoticed" missing in transit and only find out a week later, yes it does happen sometimes with small items. Parcelcheck will hopefully allow to view in real time where the parcel is and if it has not moved for a while give a notice to enquirer about its location.

Well this is all still just in planning stages, but maybe I will make it something useful!

Or it could just be another failed idea destined to go missing on the internet..

Will keep this thread updated with the progress. So any bugs/suggestions/complaints can be posted here or sent to my through http://parcelcheck.co.za/contact

Very nice!

It may be worthwhile getting a designer to make it look good though. The functionality is there but it looks like a very old site. No offense, just an honest opinion.

Keep up the good work koeksGHT. :)

+1 on a redesign. Why not add a google maps view. Some people like to see exactly where there parcel is and how far it is from them

@koeksGHT: Nice app :)

What is your poll rate?

If your site becomes popular, the couriers are probably going to try block it. Considering how unstable the SAPO web-site is, I wouldn't be surprised if this could bring the whole thing down :)

+1 - I'd also remove the ads for now, but if you must have ads, use the simple google ones and put them somewhere neat.

Nice idea, but the problem is that SAPO never updates tracking statuses. I have sent and received a few, and never have I seen an update apart from when it left the originating post office
