Planning on overclocking the CPU? :) You'll have to run a 64-bit operating system to utilize all 4GB of your RAM, but other than that it's a nice machine. I would've added more hard drive space and bought a GeForce 8800GT but that's just me :D

GeForce 9 seems to be scheduled for February if I recall correctly...

What is over clocking, is it to do with 2 Graphics Cards into your PC.

I have Windows XP 32bit and i think i can only use 2gb of ram.

How much HDD Space.

Two graphics cards in your PC is SLI for NVIDIA and Crossfire for ATI. Overclocking means running your hardware at higher speeds than it's stock settings (for example running the Q6600 at 3GHz instead of 2.4GHz).

Windows XP 32-bit will only recognize 3.25GB (if I recall correctly) of your RAM...

Well, the more hard drive space the better :) I'd use the difference between an 8800GTS and an 8800GT (R1,621 according to your prices) and use it to buy a bigger hard drive. See what you can get if you shop around :)

beanie why buy the 8800gt when the 8800gts is better :)

R1,621 better?

As I said in my original post, I'd rather buy the 8800GT and extra hard drive space since 250GB isn't a lot... Extra storage is always handy :)

beanie how much did you pay for your 8800gt again?

the 8800gts 512 is 3599 at computers only

inal Thoughts…
Despite its horribly confusing naming scheme, Nvidia’s GeForce 8800 GTS 512 is a good product at face value, as it delivers unprecedented performance at the price point Nvidia is trying to hit. However, the problem Nvidia has is that if it doesn’t manage to hit the price point it’s given to us and the price edges up towards the £250 mark, it brings the GeForce 8800 GTX back into play.

That said, if the GeForce 8800 GTS 512 hits the ~£220 retail price we’ve been given, it will hit a sweetspot that will make it a viable alternative to a stock-clocked GeForce 8800 GT and should make it much better value than most of the pre-overclocked 8800 GTs out there. We said the GeForce 8800 GT delivered performance that rivalled the GeForce 8800 GTX, but the GeForce 8800 GTS 512 manages to take the fight to the GeForce 8800 GTX and in many scenarios it’s actually faster.

It’s worth making it clear that the GeForce 8800 GTS 512 is not a GeForce 8800 GTX killer and the GeForce 8800 GTX and Ultra will still continue to rule the roost at high resolutions with anti-aliasing enabled. However, what Nvidia has done is made a similar level of performance available to those with monitors around 1680x1050 at a much lower price point – if you're looking at playing games on a 1920x1200 (or higher) screen, we'd still recommend the 8800 GTX.

Ultimately the decision of whether to buy the GeForce 8800 GTS 512 will come down to how much retailers want to charge for it. That’s something that Nvidia unfortunately cannot control, but it could easily be both the making and downfall of this product.

I ended up paying R1,100 for it (don't ask, long story which I'm not about to divulge) :p The 8800GT seems to be selling for R2,500 so is the 8800GTS that much better than the 8800GT to justify the R1,099 price difference?

Well, that's for daventry to decide :)

I'd just buy the whole system from prophecy.co.za seeing as they have the best price for the new G92 8800GTS, R3399. Their Q6600 is also almost R200 cheaper plus free shipping.

When do you want to get this system?? New gfx cards from nvidia are launching in the next 2 months. Maybe hold out a bit on the gfx?? 9800gx2 and 9600gt arrives on valentines day and the 9800gtx is scheduled to follow the next month.

On more harddrive space. You can also add more harddrives in the future. The same with ram you add more when you decide to go 64bit os.

What psu are you getting?? Get a good brand one. Try for antec if you can afford it. Else coolermaster and the new ocz ones are good. Try to get a 600watt one.

I was thinking of getting it for my Birthday, but the entire list is way to expensive, so i decided to wait till December 2008.

This is the real Card i want to buy, http://www.take2.co.za/product.php?id=2493440 XFX nVidia GeForce 8800Ultra - 768MB - PCI-E R7158 but its too expensive and people say its not necessary.

I will wait for the Geforce 9 series.

How do i get a 64bit with 4gig ram, must i get a Windows XP SP2 64bit.

Isent the PSU/cooler master on my list, show me a better one please.

I would buy an xp copy now. If you want 64bit go with vista 64. Especially since your looking at December 2008.
