My R6000ish PC

firstly if you have extra cash get 8600gts or 8800 gts 320

7600 within 6 months wont play dx 10 games very well, or dx 9 for that matter

rather splash the cash now instead of buying a cheapish card only to find out you need a better card in 5 months

but if you on a tight budget then it should be fine

also if your on a budget i dont get why you would sacrifice hardware for a 900 rand case in all honesty

I would also say that going 8800GTS is the bets option right now. It is a lot more expensive but saving up is probably the best option then.
I used to run that same ATI 9250 that you have- I am sure you are keen to upgrade!

I think Core 2 Duo E6320 would be the better CPU. Prices are slated to go down soon so :)

Yeah i also heard that around July some time even the quad cores will be the same price as the E6600 is now...but don't take my word for it i just heard..

I don't think he needs a better CPU, rather a better graphics card if he wants to game a bit, the 7600GT is getting old quick.

With 2GB of 667 RAM and any Core 2 really, your set. Best money spent would definitely be on the graphics card.

EDIT: Just looking at your set up and prices, I'd also spend less on a case and more on the graphics. The 8600's got a price drop recently, not sure if its come through to SA yet. ATI mid range should also be here by July, but you might as well go DX10 and slightly faster than a 7600GT.

For sure. The 8600GT is not a bad card and at a reasonable price of like R1300...

OK so if i have a 3GHZ cpu and i use an app that only supports one cpu meaning it would only use one of the two dual cpus, would the 3ghz run faster and better then a 1.8ghz dualcore?

Not necessarily, even though the newer processors have lower ghz, they do more per clock cycle making them faster.

Ya, I'm gonna have a look around at different gfx specs. Wondering what would be faster: GF7950GTX or 8600GTS...

Do you think the extra R150 per gig is worth for 800 instead of 667 RAM?

I'd say no for the RAM.

A 7950GTX is better than a 8600GTS, but doesn't it cost a lot more?

What kind of a budget are you looking at for the graphics card, we could help find something if we knew.

Really? Is this the case with all DDR800 RAM and all CPUs?

no if you have a mobo that supports ddr2 533/667/800 and you put ram like 800mhz it will run at 800mhz, the cpu does not control the memory the mobo does. same for 533/667
