I hate being so mercurial lol. The 40D is the better bet but *sigh* another few thousands to save up for. If only the damn 400D had live-view. I should not be spending this much on a camera but I guess I have no other choice.

You mentioned thinking about the Nikon D40. Since you don't have a working Canon DSLR, I guess buying a Nikon DSLR could be perceived as switching?![]()

There is nothing wrong with the 450D! It's a great camera. Buy it!

Live view is overrated.
I specifically need it for astrophotography
I can't see myself squinting for periods at a time to look through the viewfinder in order to shoot planets and nebulae![]()
Sounds more like you need a space ship with big guns
I guess AF is not really a concern then.
Makes sense . . . if you really want that lens.
Remember IS helps with camera, not subject, motion.I do
I've seen what a difference an IS lens can make. I don't want my pics to come out a bit shaky/blurry.
So can we make predictions of when you'll be looking for your second lens?Indeed![]()

Which 70-300?I'll probably look to get the 70-300mm as soon as I can

Followed by a Macro lens![]()
Don't get anyone below that. The 70-300 IS is awesome!
