My shutter is kaputt. (goodbye, 300D)

I hate being so mercurial lol. The 40D is the better bet but *sigh* another few thousands to save up for. If only the damn 400D had live-view. I should not be spending this much on a camera but I guess I have no other choice.

You mentioned thinking about the Nikon D40. Since you don't have a working Canon DSLR, I guess buying a Nikon DSLR could be perceived as switching?

I thought you meant switching lenses on the Canon. (problem with durability)

There is nothing wrong with the 450D! It's a great camera. Buy it!

I specifically need it for astrophotography
I can't see myself squinting for periods at a time to look through the viewfinder in order to shoot planets and nebulae

Sounds more like you need a space ship with big guns

I guess AF is not really a concern then.

The 450D does have Auto-focus, does it not?

All DSLRs sold today have auto focus. I was more commenting on how good the camera auto-focusses. Doesn't really matter if you're shooting though a telescope.

Canon 450D with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens = R9000

That's probably why I'm going with the 450D and also the 450D is obviously better.

I've seen what a difference an IS lens can make. I don't want my pics to come out a bit shaky/blurry.
