Its not wussing out, its trying to respect her privacy.
Sure she should know what you are talking about but she will hopefully not be embarrassed and as a result try and defend her actions or worse get angry at him for being so crass about it.

I still dont see a reason why a noise complaint should mention the specific reason for the noise.

Well, the fact that her noise making is being complained about by others already contravenes any privacy she should be afforded. If you don't specify the noise, she could easily deny it / assume it is something else.

When I was still studying - I stayed with my parents in a cluster. Nice place, quiet, my washing got done, good food.
Then a divorced mom of two moved in. Cute, but seriously in a bad place post-divorce. So bad she suffered from insomnia. So she watched her favorite movie when she couldn't sleep - 'Dirty Dancing'. Every damn night.
Did I mention her bedroom and mine shared a wall?
Every night - I still know all the words to that movie.

Luckily - just before I started studying for finals - she finally got a rebound boyfriend.
Which put a end to the late night insomnia.

Two weeks later he moved in with her and I discovered that she was a screamer. And Moaner. And a Prayer(er?). And still suffered from insomnia. :(

It went okay.
I did not have to say much. One of the other neighbours heard the screaming when I was there and put an anonymous letter in the post box. She invited me in for coffee, we chatted and I mentioned that there were some complaints about screaming. I asked her if she had heard anything. She showed me the letter and what could I say because everything I wanted to say, was in the letter.

Hopefully she gets the message although she seemed very cheerful for someone who may suspect that she is the culprit.

I'll let you know if/when I receive further complaints.

It really was just coffee and I was thirsty. :D
