My views : iPad 2

Small android phone just dont have the oomf. On the S2 and other high end devices the are basically on par. Example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUkbUfQTKXM

Personally I prefer the Miren browsers as it is a hell of a lot more snappier.
I have a tab 10.1; and it's terrible (not only an oomph problem) -- using the Dolphin browser at the moment... Still looking for something better though...

Dude dont judge anything by that piece of crap called a Samsung galaxy tab. I honestly dont know why Apple dont just let Samsung hang themselves with that thing.

I played with one the other day and I must say coming from an Android fanboy, I will never ever recommend that thing, hell not even to my enemies.

/rant

Busy installing Miren on my Eee pad to see if its worth a look for you.

Don't be too concerned, I have two iPads and 1 Tab (for dev), so when it irritates me I move to an IPad... ;)

It's not all bad though...

Went to a Josie Fields concert last night and wanted to play someone in the office a clip from her album. Head over to Musica, find the song ... click and 'Flash required'.

I sigh a little and think of another place. Bingo! Her Myspace page would probably have something ... pop over ... find the song ... click and 'Flash required'

... her site itself also says 'You don't have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player'.

So www.myspace.com, www.musica.co.za, www.josiefield.co.za ...

It appears if you stick to MyBB, Flickr, Facebook and the few sites I usually go to, you're fine. However the minute you're actually searching for something - you're hit by Flash errors everywhere you go. I think this is 3 of 3.

Can't find the song on Youtube.

On another topic - anyone ever have an issue connecting to the Youtube app?

OMW thanx dude... I would never have installed Miren on my Tablet if it wasn't for you...

Dam this thing rocks.

I think one of the drawbacks of using an iPad are the bloated files that are used to send you pics and data. A welcome screen from a travel guide, just a yellow background with a stylised sun and some text was 13mb in size. Then there are the tracking cookies and notifications, location services that are running all the time, using bandwidth while you are just reading a magazine. I look at 24.com fairly often and this is one of the better ones in terms of economy of useage, but if you view USA Today, their screens take 3 times longer to load. I looked at the USA today and asked it to update. It took 4 mins and by that time had gone through 32mb of data and I hadn't even read an article yet, just looked at the images in the menu.

If you have a super-fast wi-fi connection with no cap, as in the US, it probably does not matter, but if I were to use an iPad to get mail, do some occasional browsing and use Skype, I am sure I would hit 10gb in a matter of days.

This said, it is a wonderful gadget and I got around the App store restrictions by having 2 Apple Store addresses, one here and one in the US. If you use the US address, you can get Dragon Dictate for free, but its not available in SA.

I would also suggest Googling "Best free apps for iPad" and especially look at TechRadar's site

I Googled Miren and it tells me is a female pelvic inflammation, maybe that was the incorrect site?

The link is in post #64 and its a Chinese browser originally created for MIUI. It has since then been available as a Separate application in the Android market for other users.

So I guess that is why the name comes up funny oh and miren is mandarin for charming written as 迷人

It's an app -- app store

Wrt youtube app, not really; but honestly I prefer to use the web app from google (re you can control quality SD vs HD), browse to www.youtube.com and click the arrow icon to the left of the address bar and choose add to desktop.

There are always going to be some inconveniences, but to be honest it's easy to carry around vs a laptop :wtf:

I also had both devices and I actually think that the Tab is better than the iPad for my everyday use. But each has there pro's and con's and it probably depends on what you feel is more important.

But that said, after looking at both, it is very difficult to say Samsung didn't copy the iPad in most parts.

I use both for the stuff we develop... but if you ask me which one am I most likely to pick up at home to read, then that's a different question. The choice for me really comes down to the apps; which in my case are tablet style apps like: flipboard, zite, news24, ibooks, ... (guess you get the idea...)

The Android market is unfortunately littered with a lot of apps that are not tuned for the tablet form factor and the quality is sometimes not on par.

... + I use Apple's remote app to control itunes and the Zeppelin air speakers.

I however have high hopes for ics though,... can't wait to see if Google has finally got things on track...

This video here, comparing browsing on a Nexus one with a 3Gs (Nexus one has a faster CPU remember), exactly shows the problem I have with the Android browser: random slowness and jumpiness. Flash makes it worser.

Yes that's possible the biggest issue I have with Android; the lack of proper GPU acceleration is so apparent (it's hereditary); iOS never had the baggage android did and therefore the entire UI & apps are inherently GPU accelerated.

As I've said in other posts, some custom mods have been made to the Android interface (by Samsung, HTC and Motorola) to accelerate the UI, but the problem still is very apparent in Google's apps and many developer apps.

Some additional reference articles on UI GPU acceleration:

http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13404&q=GPU&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars

On a more positive note; Google have admitted this, and its part of the goal for ics to improve this... (holding thumbs).

Comment 367 is not encouraging though

Holy cow that sucks?

Hell its even worse than my year old HTC Desire. Something is not right. There is no way a brand new device with way more CPU power than my old phone struggles like that.

I am not saying Android doesn't stutter as we know it does drop frames, but something in that video is fishy, if not I am staying as far away from ICS as possible.

Same site (unfortunately they redesigned) on a 1 GHz Scorpion processor, Adreno 200 GPU, Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon chipset released February 2010.

It's not ics; that would have to be a review of Samsung Galaxy Nexus (not Nexus One)

Phew... for a moment I was worried that they went backwards, still doesn't explain the crap response he got.

Unfortunately as I mentioned before, the experience with Android is varied; UI has definitely not been GPU accelerated + there's problem with the accuracy of the touch sensors, more recently touch sensor lag. The mix of which isn't good for finger tracking / UI responsiveness. The reports are mixed about whether ics has resolved this...
