MyADSL Movie Thread

Hey all. Yesterday I saw "a case of murder", the one steve hofmeyr plays in. I wasn't impressed at all, all though steve played his roll very good. The reason I wasn't impressed, is cause it was a typical South African movie. What you guys think of it?

Set against the backdrop of civil war and chaos in 1990's Sierra Leone, Blood Diamond is the story of Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) - a South African mercenary - and Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou) - a Mende fisherman. Both men are African, but their histories as different as any can be, until their fates become joined in a common quest to recover a rare pink diamond that can transform their lives. While in prison for smuggling, Archer learns that Solomon - who was taken from his family and forced to work in the diamond fields - has found and hidden the extraordinary rough stone. With the help of Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly), an American journalist whose idealism is tempered by a deepening connection with Archer, the two men embark on a trek through rebel territory, a journey that could save Solomon's family and give Archer the second chance he thought he would never have.

I'm unsure if it's out there yet, surely it is, or will be soon. Highly recommend you see it.

I warn you though, Leonardo Di Caprio's fake Rhodesian accent might drive you crazy
 
I couldnt suffer through it - DiCaprio's accent (btw he claims to a Rhodesian in the movie and not South African - as per the IMDB blurb) was pretty bad even to my foreign ears.

It annoyed me throughout the trailer so I'm sure it is going to really annoy me if I have to sit through an entire movie.

It would have been better if he had just not bothered trying to put on an accent.

How is that worse than one with a gratingly fake accent?

Instead of trying to replicate a foreign accent and failing dismally he could have spent his time flattening his own accent.
 
Any movie which has people ATTEMPTING a SA accent are always incredibly grating, cos they always bugger it up.....

There was also that horrific MI2 attempt at an SA accent....

Yeah but DiCaprio seemed to think that making every other word either 'bru' or 'china' would make it more authentic sounding. :eek:
