MyADSL traffic set to increase

I wonder if that caused the 'database error' and 'too many connections' error I got a while back when trying to view the forums...?

*mod note* feel free to move or delete if this is in the wrong section

I have been using Google News for a while now as my homepage, and today I saw this http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/3181/googlescreenshot28wr.png Google uses MyADSL as one of its news sources !!!
I think we will receive a significant amount of new traffic if this becomes a regular occurence.
Hi SuperAntMD

We have been part of Google news for many months now. I think it has definite value to South Africans subscribing to the Google news feeds, but does not generate too much traffic unless one of the articles hit their main news page (happened twice I think). The site is however still growing and last week was our busiest week yet.

This is great news for broadband consumers…I think companies fear (or in some cases like, if it is an honest customer centric company) few things more that their consumers gathering in a single place, being able to share ideas openly, being/staying informed and generally speaking with one voice. I think it is similar than with employee unions: if individual employees complain, no problem. If a union complains and threatens action, the company usually takes note :D

Regards,

RPM

Bout time you got some more airtime!

Hopefully this will spur on some positive changes in the local broadband arena.

Nice one... Keep spreading the truth!:D

This is completely besides the point, but rpm...do u have a full-time job? I mean besides myADSL. I really dont understand where you find the time to keep this site going. Must take hours and hours out of your day.

Big thumbs up to you and all who helps makes this possible.

rpm for president!!!

Hi Zerofocus

Thanks for the kind words. I do indeed have a full time job in the academic field which affords me some free time to run the site. You are correct that it is very time consuming, but I enjoy MyADSL as much as anybody else and it has become like a ‘full-time’ hobby :D

I am however not the only person working on the site. With all the heated debates the mods are working very hard, Cara is writing/editing articles and handling all administrative issues, Antowan is doing the podcasts, Halicon has done some design work for us and both Antowan and IC looks after the site during times when we go on holiday. All these guys have full time jobs to pay the bills, so they are noble indeed (especially the poor mods :D).

But let’s not forget who really drives the site and is responsible for its growth: you! Without an active broadband community sharing their experiences, voicing their views and sharing their knowledge this will just be another site hidden somewhere in Google. You have made companies take note of MyADSL and ensure that this is a great place to hang out.

Regards,

RPM

Honestly RPM you and your crew have done more for the south african IT sector imho than a shuttleworth or a new broadband product coudl ever have accomplished.

Most of us hate telkom with a passion(hell i'mknown as the guy at work to come to if there's any telkom bashing to be done), but you kept ureself above all the flames and stayed focused on what needs to be done.

If there's anything ever that I can help with down here in cpt i'm up for it.

Thanks to all of you working so hard keeping myadsl the greatest ZA site out there.

That's got to be one of the most disturbing and yet somehow sort of complimentary posts ever MyDraadloos... Armitage: I have the same rep where I work :p
