MyBB guide to quitting smoking

Smoked 22 years. Gave up 5 years ago.

Can't image smoking again. In fact I dislike second hand smoke and try avoid it.

22 years ago, there were almost no movies or magazines not advertising/encouraging people to start smoking. Smoking was made out to be THE most social and coolest thing to do.

Fortunately times have changed a lot.

Indeed they have. I remember about 30 years ago when my sister got married and moved into her new house. We went to visit and she asked my Dad if he could smoke outside, please.

I can still remember thinking 'who the fsck does she think she is, the cheeky mare'. Really, I was absolutely shocked. :D

Yip you could smoke anywhere back then. In fact the concept of a non smoking area was non existent. You could smoke and use the supplied ashtrays in banks and airplanes ...

Hahaha... People were smoking while strolling in shopping malls.

And on planes! :D

Everywhere was fair game. In the office, on the bus or the train. The first time I flew to SA was in 1990 on Air Portugal, and I sat in the smoking section making my way through the duty free Marlboro. I remember being pissed off because the guy in front had a pipe and I thought he was being inconsiderate. True story :D

Yep. Had a few whiskeys and a couple of shooters. Still didn't have the urge to smoke
Well done & congratulations!!

Feels great when you take control of your mind and body back from those small cancer sticks.

You will pick up some weight, but it's to be expected.

Food tastes absolutely amazing, because by now you will be able to taste food again.

I actually started banting on the same day that I quite smoking (part of an overall need to take control of my health and fitness).
So I'm steadily losing weight .. roughly 1.5 kg so far. Goal is to lose 20 kg in 3-4 months.

Don't stop! ;)

Anyone with new years resolutions? I'm on day 10 and coughing my lungs out!

New Years resolutions only last for one month - just go and check your local Virgin Active out for one month. :D

You must be mentally ready to quit smoking, that's the only way it will work properly.

The one thing that bothered me was that I would pick up a lot of weight when I stop smoking, so I started working out at the gym and have never stopped.

It's amazing how good you feel when you get control of your body back from those little cancer sticks. ;)

^this.
Exercise helps a whole lot when it comes to quitting, you feel better about yourself and it helps you stay motivated to keep off the ciggies.

2 years cigarette free here,

Method: Drop box even if it still has smokes in it - break cigarettes and throw away, finally don't smoke.

I did something similar - gave my pack of cigarettes to a work colleague.

That's when I knew I was ready to quit for good.
