99% of the time it's not important, and it's a stupid call centre trying to sell you something.

Not at all. MyTools used to play a message of Trevor Noah saying something like "This subscriber does not accept calls from blocked numbers. Unblock your number and try again.".

Absolutely. This was a very useful feature.

Then I would expect the call not to come from a blocked number.

So you inform them of this before the time? Sometimes ABSA calls me from a 914 number, sometimes it's a private number.

Banks don't usually call from private numbers anymore.

Standard Bank always phones me from a 011 9xx xxxx number and FNB a 087 number.

I do notice that this is happening as they upgrade/change their switchboard systems, which pleases me. My personal preference, I'd rather not block unknown numbers, I still get too many of them that I actually need to answer. Meh.

Netbank called me many times using private numbers. However it was not from my branch, but just marketting reps from credit card division trying to get a new customer. If they receive automatic reply, they know what to do to talk to me, very useful.

They do not need to hide their number if it is important, and the voice message made it clear I do not accept private calls.

Hope CellC brings back this service, else I needa upgrade my poor little iPhone to something "smarter" that has build-in blocking magics.
