MyWireless Frequently Asked Questions

Here's something for the FAQ page if someone can resolve it for me.
I have Win98 SE with ICS installed over a 2 pc network. I cannot get the client pc to work at all. The client pc can only browse with Explorer.Even that is intermittant. The Email starts to receive, but hangs while receiving the message. FTP doesn't work, IRC doesn't work etc.
I've tried a few suggested bug fixes, but I'm still getting the same results. I know the network is ok. I used to have a normal modem installed, and the setup worked fine. Any ideas?

FYI. I phoned their call centre to ask if MyWireless works on a network, they said "yes", although they also said that they do not support networks.
 
Can someone give me a definative answer as to what sort of download speeds I should
be getting on the 256kbps package.

I have mostly 4 lights showing on the modem and live 2 km from the nearest tower and
2.5km from the next nearest.

Something doesn't look right when my download from Microsoft.com is telling me I am
getting 3.20 KB/Sec and Net Activity Diagram is telling me I am averaging 40 kbps

??????
 
Well it seems you never read the bumf on their website. MyWireless can be networked, but this is not supported by Sentech.

This is the reason why they are setting up the "channel", so they don't have to deal with these issues.

It is early days yet, but if you don't know what you are doing then you should not buy direct.

Would you send your grandma to Rectron ?

It's good thing there are forums such as this, if you are lucky enough to stumble accross it ...... what if you don't ?

how to use MYSIGNAL with PCMCIA MODEM as it doesnt detect the modem?

xp doesnt show the pcmcia card as a modem either ,the mywireless pcmcia obviously does work (aside for the normal SINtech problems)
 
PLEASE... can members posting to this forum stipulate
their tower NAME as well as their tower number. In most cases
many towers have the SAME number!!!

i.e. Some idiot from Fastcomm (who set this up for Sentech) has allocated as follows:
[12] JHB International
[12] Council Mineral Tech
[12] Bez Valley
[12] Bay of Plenty
[12] Rockford (Pheonix)
[12] Milnerton
[12] Camps Bay
[12] Blouberg
 
I'd love to post tower in etc.

I'll check the FAQ but does anyone know how to get tower info on a PPPoE setup?

the tower numbering has to do with the inter tower signalling. There is currently NO way to number towers in a "logical" manner. One can only hope IPW get that sorted in the next 10 years or so ... that's how long it takes to get anything done it seems.

Hi there

RegardTV is correct. I spoke to a senior FastComm technician about this and he confirmed the tower number is an indication of the identity that the tower transmits on. Ie tower 82 transmits a signal saying "Hi I'm tower 82" so that the modem knows what tower it is connected to when it picks up a signal. You will notice that there are very rarely situations where you could pick up the same tower ID from 2 towers as towers with the same ID are usually separated by big distances. There is a limit to the number of ID's that can be assigned - hence the duplication of numbers. That is my understanding of the situation.

I here psp portable has wifi built in. Will it be compatible with sentech (or gasp, Iburst?)

Isnt that 802.11x based? Should only work with normal wireless ap's.. could try it on a normal WISP like uninet tho..
 
There are 3 Value Added Parteners to Sentech - NoWire, AutoPage and IS.
