PRETORIA - Tshwane metro police were yet to confirm whether a blue light vehicle was involved in an accident on Thursday which resulted in the closure of the N1 south near the Rigel off-ramp for several hours.

Four people were injured in the accident which involved two vehicles.

The highway has since been reopened.

Motorists who drove past earlier said it looked like one of the cars was a blue light vehicle.

“There were two vehicles involved. One white and one black one with lights on top,” one motorist said.

Tshwane metro police spokesperson Console Tleane said he had no details of the vehicles involved.

“I can only confirm that the road was reopened.”

I see these idiots @ least two different vehicles separately every morning rushing and I mean rushing along the N1 South driving like lunatics. The "adjusted" law states in case of emergency and the lights and sirens must be on then they can rush if safe to do so.

So every day these pr1cks are rushing which is clear and blatant abuse of their "fixed" law.

If this is one of these blue light brigade and he is to blame I hope that they get the book thrown at them but hope is only a wish which will probably never come true under this cr@p government.

I was stuck in that traffic for 2 whole fscking hours to travel 10kms!!!! Fsck the government. Can't even get the basics like driving right.

apparently it was a special operations vehicle, not part of the blue light brigade

We drove past at 05h45 and caught the tailback starting at the Rigel onramp, so we were delayed by 15min or so. I couldn't quite understand why they had to block off the whole highway. It looked like they'd cleared a 200m stretch on either side of the scene, where the 2 vehicles involved occupied the 2 left lanes. Makes more sense if a bigwig in a blue-light vehicle was involved...

I looked at you fsckers while taking a sip of my coffee

Traffic control mechanisms in Gauteng are ridiculous. These clowns have no idea what harm it causes to business productivity.

I really, really do not understand the need that the traffic department has to close off the entire highway for a fender bender in the far left lane?????
Can someone please explain it to me????

Offices close to event ;)

lucky bugger

saw the traffic jam just before King's Highway bridge, decided to do some back road.

Traffic jams everywhere  Especially Boeing Rd was congested

If it is a taste of things to come when gautollie is switched on, then I don't want to have a repeat of that every day.

Just a side question, I remember a story about BLBs not being allowed in the WC, did this happen? One more reason I'm glad the DA is taking over the country.

I passed the accident at about 6:00. Didn't see any blue lights on either of the cars.

Do think closing the entire highway was bit of an overkill. Surely they can take some photos and then move one of the cars - they could have opened 2 lanes that way.

WE sometimes have Blue light vehicles try to push people off the road from King Williams Town - East London.
Guys drive like absolute prats and flash the crap out of cars who clearly cannot pull over yet.
