The app I use most on my iPod Touch ... Amazon's Kindle ... is not yet available for Symbian or MeeGo. Symbian may do e-books of sorts, but currently Kindle is not one of them (and nothing comes close to Kindle in my books). Why's Kindle available for iOS, Android and BlackBerry but not Symbian? That's an indication of where Symbian sits on Amazon's priority list.

Try something else for a change, if you don't like it then go back to your beloved Nokias. But holy crap, for the love of jeebus and all that is sane please stop talking about other phones and comparing unreleased handsets with current handsets you have never even owned or used. Oh, and while you're at it, it would really help your cause if all of your biases didn't hang out like a giant donkey dick on a maggot each time you do your "unbiased" review posts.
I loved my iPhone for the first year and a half I had it... then times changed and it became too slow, boring, restrictive etc.
Now I'm more than happy to admit that Android is kicking ass left, right and center and the Samsung Galaxy S lying next to me on the table is my new best friend.
Just enjoy the damn things and stop being so "frustrated" about it. A failure for Nokia doesn't mean a failure for you...

- Radio transmitter
- HDMI 720p video and Dolby Digital out
Things that make me sceptical:
- Slow processor
- Doesn't feel as smooth as some of the new Android phones and iPhone 4 I've played with
- Doesn't have as much eye-candy as the above two

The amount of useless apps has already been discussed. It is quality versus quantity. I will not be buying an iPhone, not for what you get for the price.

And as feeble attempt as that was to come up with an app that you can't get on Symbian (feeble because as pointed out by you there are many eBook apps for Symbian), I eagerly await a slightly longer list............. after all there are thousands of apps available for your "great" phone. I'm sure there are many Symbian couldn't possible have something similar.

This is a Nokia N8 thread. Feel free to add value... unless of course you feel it is ok for you to come in with your fan comments but not for me to express the opposite in "your" threads.
Why bother when I have given ample opportunity for people to point out why a move would be in my interests and very few proper reasons are given (I don't not count because the UI is more exciting/because you only press one button instead of two/you can download stacks of crap apps etc as reasons).
Ahh, so here we go with this pathetic argument of only being able to discuss something if you have personally owned it. Damn, his forum is going to be a damn quiet place....
If you weren't so gullible and had listened to those of us who know what we are talking about you could have saved yourself the bother of ever owning that. Funny that if you look back on these forums you'll see some of us were telling people that when the iPhone got launched, but no, you knew better. The interesting thing is that I have owned my N82 for just over two years now. I have not rushed out to replace it. The only reason I am considering replacing it is because I use a contract so it makes sense to just get a new phone anyway. I'll then hand my N82 on to my girlfriend who is still exceptionally happy with the N95 she inherited two years ago!

Back to the N8. As the battery is not removable, Nokia had better make damn sure that the phone does not freeze,
edit: does any of the reviews say how long the battery lasts? Id hope ots not one day like most new phones today

They apparently have but we are all aware that it is impossible to guarantee a phone does not freeze so they have included an option to press and hold the power button for eight seconds to reboot the phone if it does freeze.
With it not having been officially released yet there have not been many, if any, long term tests yet to check things like that. Most review are based on pre production models or a few hours in hand at Nokia World.

As Edgars have advertised the phone available from 1st Oct, im a little concerned at the lack of info about it. I mean usa and uk normally get phones months before we do, and not even gsm arena has it for review yet. I dont think we will see this phone this year.

There is much talk on a website I frequent, from someone who claims to be a NokiaSA rep (and no reason to believe he isn't), that the SA launch date is 15 October. Let's see.

I am torn between the Galaxy S, Torch, N8 and Desire ... I have never been so uncertain about my next phone. Previously it would have been the next best Nokia, but the smartphones being launched today are getting better (iPhone excluded
). They're smarter, mostly quicker and user-friendly.Actually Lance, the Kindle app is a pretty damn good example. It is actually one of the reasons I am going to move to Android.
I do have a Kindle and I would have loved if there was a Kindle app for my E71 so that I could sync my reading material between them. But alas, Symbian is seen as a big fat Zero in the states.

That is for you personally. The argument earlier was based on their being hundreds, if not thousands, of apps for these phones. I merely asked for examples of a few of them, I was given one. Although this may be the deal clincher for you it means very little to me.

I have seen and played with Samsung's Galaxy S. It's a brilliant phone with loads of great apps. Quick and smooth transition. Great camera. Played Need for Speed on it and the just turned the handset to steer the car. I like the fact that Android is the OS and seems to be the OS for the future. It's got European awards and just looks right all round.
Seen the HTC Desire and it too looks good. I liked the idea that I could set up the phone for specific needs ... like an office/work mode, home mode, etc. It looked quick too.
But it's the Torch and N8 that holds me back now.
Lancelot, I gave you one example as that was all that was needed. You replied with what might come for Symbian; not with what is available now. If you think I'm going to get into a "list yours and I'll list mine" war of words you're mistaken. 250 000 Pre-approved apps that's gone through a quality control process is a far stronger position than whatever fraction of that number Ovi Store can claim. To state that most of the 250 000 Apple apps are crap without personal experience and testing is rich. I've been a symbian user for many years ... you thave experience with iOS and the app store? Nope. Anyway, enjoy your N8. It's a great piece of hardware (and so is a good hammer).

It is an eBook reader. I have Mobireader on my N82 right now. I can read eBooks on my Symbian phone. I don't have Kindle but that was not the premise of the argument. It was based on you having apps for which I could not find similar for my two year old phone.
So you sig dissed Nokia, praised Blackberry and now you are an Apple fan boy?
