Do you not pay imports and customs for this kind of purchase?
This phone is only available in the UK

I have loads of friends and family in England so I always have it posted to them and time it when some one is visiting. I have had 2 phones posted and they they were marked as 2nd hand phones and I think I may have had to pay VAT. For customs though always make the value lower and insure it for higher.

As for it being dodgy, ALWAYS deal with a ebayer who has a a couple hundred transactions and pref a ebay shop too. Look at their rating and comments and you can usually gauge it. I bought a 7110i a while back and went for cheap over a good rating and the phone came with no cover or keypad. Perfect condition though, so that set me back another 10 quid. Still was WAY cheaper than here.

Get the phone from iTalk it's only 189.50 per month on a mycall 100, no once of excess on the phone

I think I am going to wait till I can move to MTN with my Vodacom number, which should be possible from 18 September (MNP).
I have queried this with Vodacom but I dont think they are going to bother to answer me.
Ridiculous that they want to charge R2000  for the N80, where I can get it for free on MTN!!

Buy from Expansys or get someone over there to buy it and mail it to you. You generally lose out on the warranty, but then often you can buy a whole new phone for the difference in price. And how often do you need repairs under warranty?

You'll pay VAT - customs value * 1.1 * 0.14 (don't ask, that's how they calculate it); on the other hand you don't have to pay UK VAT (17.5%)
Import duties on phones was 8% last time I imported one - ( customs value + VAT ) * 1.15 * 0.08 (yeah, that is how they calculate it).

Hey Guys,

A friend of mine got N80 from Vodacom for Free on a Talk Package after much trouble. basiccaly, he told them that if he doesn't get the phone then he will switch to MTN and threatened to cancel his contract. They promptly arranged for the phone to be delivered and when I saw him this Friday he had just picked up the phone from Vodacom.

From Vodacom4me:

Get a Nokia N80 FREE when signing an initial 24-month Weekend Everyday Contract at R135 per month. You pay SIM and Connection (Once-off): R202.

Including Itemised Billing @ R21 and CLIP @ R7.50, SIMSURE @ R4.

Offer valid from 07 August to 06 September 2006.

Wonder if the upgrade prices have also dropped

@v3g, I take it you did mention to the 'powers that be' what the general feeling was on this site re the N80 pricing?!? :)

ja i really dont know why the upgrade is more than a new contract. you would think that they would be happy for someone to upgrade their contract?

The N80 Free on a Weekender Package seems to be exclusive to Vodaworld , Nashua and Autopage , http://www.vodacom.co.za/getSpecials.do
Ok, so you can only get the N80 on Vodacom for free if you go with the above 3 SP's?

I will have to make a plan then....

Which is the better of the 2: NashuaMobile or Autopage?
I have not heard for good things about NM...
