Hi all,

Again I am going to predict that everybody is going to say go for the N85 becuase it has 5MP cammera, gps, hsdpa etc.

However I'm more interested in the N81 8GB and hear your thoughts about that phone, based on the opinions I'll see if forking out a few extra grand for the N85 is going to be worth it.
Also N81 has lots of keys in one small space, and the plastick and build I have heard are not so good.

I love the looks of the N85, it's just the high prices that put me off, (contract upgrades)

Thanks in advance,
I've been out of touch with phones for the last two years so am hoping that you guys are going to be guru's and help me out.

I will say N85. You get a 8GB memory card with it anyway so you can just as well call it a N85 8GB.

Better display
Better Battery life
Better Camera
Better data connectivity
Better firmware

It's just better.

Thanks, I also think so, gorgeous phone, charges via USB which is great :)
Also the FM transmitter, no more CD's in car simply playing the music from my phone on the stereo works for me.

I been pondering the X1, Touch Pro, Touch HD, Storm and Omnia for the last couple of months but after playing around on my mates X1 I've decided I need the simplicity and ease of use which is my N95, therefore my upgrade will in fact be a N85...

Yeh same here, those phones are too complicated for a mobile phone(ie typing a msg whilst driving etc) and too small to be used as a notebook computer so they fall some where in the middle which makes them useless for me.

I quite like the N85 but its build quality issues put me off, ie front keypad falling off, slider coming loose after short while etc.

Ended up getting a N82, extremely happy. Good build quality with no moving parts and a a superb camera.

love my n85! I still find that the phone is still quite rigid after a months use so thats good. also love the FP2 - which makes the GUI more pleasing with some nice effects- it even makes the Sensor rotation look more like the iphones :-D. The themes for the N85 are also better and can be personalised to your every slide which is great..Oh n USB charging!

Do you use the FM transmitter at all? And if you do how's the reception? What about battery life?

I think the N82 is one of the most under rated models of the N series. I don't think I've ever heard anyone who owns a N82 say anything negative about it...

I am very satisfied with the N85.

Having been a smartphone freak for some time, I have all the Nokia Communicators (9300, 9300i 9500, E90) Nokia E-series (E50, 51 & E65), as well as the HTC TyTN II.

The HTC is a NICE phone, while the N85 is a GREAT phone.

The symbian S60 operating system has had the bugs sorted out, while Win Mobile 6 still has some issues.

Using the N85 a lot will shorten battery life, but not as quick as the other phones.

A handy feature that I really enjoy of the N85, is the ability to charge when connected to the USB cable.
Another feature that is worth a lot, is the ability to connect the phone to a TV via the supplied cables, and then watching videos, photo's or just listening to music on the TV.

Zooming in on pictures is a hassle though, as it takes a lot of time.

The 5MP camera is a "nice to have" and not a neccessity. To take pictures I prefer to use the Canon 1000D, with various lenses.
If you don't have a camera handy, the phone camera is adequate though.

The smaller touchpad at the top of the phone is handy as well, as it enables you to navigate your mutimedia quickly and effortlessly.

Watching movies that have been converted to Mpeg4 is also a breeze. The screen may be a bit small, but it certainly beats the "are we there yet" questions that get asked every few minutes. Just start up a movie, and presto, the kids are happy.

Overall, I wouldn't exchange my N85 for anything else.

There is no contest between the N85 and the N81. he N85 rules supreme in all regards.

The N85 is definetly better, but the N81 is a fantastic phone, ive had mine 14moths and realy dont have much if anything to complain about, its a brilliant music phone thats for sure, very stable and well built, it has a very poor camera but not too bad at video recording, but i think you'd rather just spend a bit more and get the N85, it improves on the N81 in every way.

Is it just my N81 that every time I turn the phone on and off the memory card says corrupted, then I have to take the memory card out and put it back in.
