Hey guys,

Any cellphone sellers/repairers out there able to give me an idea of the cost of a replacement back cover for my N95? I have the plum but any colour will do. Not sure if there is a black one doing the rounds in SA? I have only seen plum and beige (or whatever they call it! :))

I have somehow managed to break the clips off the cover that goes over the battery so now it keeps falling off. I just need this (so if anyone has "second hand spare parts" then great) but I assume I will need to replace the whole cover.

Prices and where to get them please? I am in Durban but an indication of price from anyone is SA will be appreciated!

Thanks

I'm also in the market for one. There quite a few on ebay but it doesn't seem like the yanks wanna do business with us...

I was advised that the best place to get a battery cover would be at a repair center, any repair center as these guys might have spares lying around. I'll let you know if it's viable.

You often purchase goods from abroad?

Never, hence the reason I am interested in finding someone local to support... that whole proudly South African thing you know! :)

If you have any luck please let me know. Someone told a friend in pasing that they can get them one for about R120 but I have no idea if that was just the battery cover or the whole thing. From the UK links posted it looks like the price of the whole cover. I wouldn't mind going for a whole change and getting the entire "warm graphite" cover

No surprises there. I've bought on ebay but not often, prefer using local vendors as there's very little recourse if anything goes wrong with an item bought from USA...

Will let you know if I find any up here. It's a potent phone, the N95, barring those feeble clips on the battery cover...

Yeah I love it! And I was surprised when the clip broke until I had a look at them... a little feeble but don't suppose there is much else they could do really unless it was metal. It is over a year old and had a drop or two :)

Yeah I've seen that...

Seems to be a relatively common problem and with that in mind I wonder if Nokia would supply new battery covers to out of warranty handsets. Yours also carry a 1 year warranty?

R60 from a vodacare center, bargain...

No mine has no warranty as it was received as a gift and bought outside the country. Will shop around tomorrow. As mentioned a mate got one priced for me but I never followed up on it.

What about that place down off Point Rd? I forget the name. It won't be original Nokia, though :D:D

I got a black cover (Back and Front) for my N95 at one of these Cellphone Shops that sell all these kind of covers and stuff. Generic unfortunately.

I replaced it myself, the front and back. Now I have a nice limited edition Black and Silver N95. Cost me R80.

It is a little frustrating as I have also been told the ones available are generic ones for between R100 and R150. Yet online you find genuine, full cover not just battery cover, for 12 pounds... I'd pay around R180 for a genuine!

Anyway I myself resorted to the solution provided in the other thread link i posted. I took off the whole cover and glued the battery cover to the rest of the cover from within. It dried perfectly and from outside you can't tell the difference. I don't access the battery that often anyway.

Bit drastic but if it works.... how difficult/easy is it to get the whole cover off??!!

It is fairly simple... if you pull slightly on the plum or sand cover on the side near one of the corners you will see it moves away quite easily. A little more of a pull and it "unclips". You then do the same to the other side and it comes off no problem.

On the same topic, my mom's 6500 Slide took a knock a while back, this caused the memory card not to register. When searching Nokia I found the solution was to bend a part of the back plate that creates the connection with the memory card.

Long story short, they build the thing with a stainless steel exterior, but the build quality is so pathetic that the phone refuses to close with the back plate anymore, suffice to say, I have to wiggle and wangle that pin on many occasions just to get the memory card working. Also, the plate is stuck with cello tape just to keep it closed.

Nokia needs to improve their build standards IMO ;)

Hi there

I had the same problem with broken clips on the back cover of my N95 and I went to the vodacare counter at the vodacom shop (Canal Walk - Cape Town) and it was only R60 for an original battery cover (R91 at Nokia) and a 10 minute wait for processing. so get yourself over there dude.

Nokia at Vodaworld Midrand offered to swap out all my covers for around R600 (Front cover, back cover, buttons, side buttons, speaker grills, camera cover, the works) so I'd try them.
