N95 vs N96 and N82

If you have the extra few bucks go for the N96.

Screen is bigger
Memory is much bigger
Faster CPU
Newer technology
Looks nicer
Much better multimedia phone (if you use the dual slide function alot)

The N82 has got a nice xenon flash but you dont use a flash for every single photo.

But then again, thats my opinion. If it was my choice I would go for the N96.
 
N82 is better than the N95 so its between the N96 and N82
N96 is obviously the better option, my gripe is the R5200 payin on my Talk 500 line!!

I also need to use my 24 month upgrade, im not sure what to get!:(
 
exactly the dilemma, price is also one of my major considerations. I just got the N82 and damn, its got all the features of the new Nokias, and its got the best camera, that is really the clincher for me. I was playing with the camera last night and Holy Crap, its amazing. It behaves like hi end camera, the flash is years beyond anything. WOW, and with a price tag of only 239 on MTN anytime 200, its a downright deal! I love it!

Lol nice question, S60s always tend to be slow.. Dudleys N82 should be fast and responsive for now, but it will become slow in the next few months, nothing a hard reset will fix though.

N96, not sure, havent played with one yet...
 
Yeah if the pay in isn't a factor N96, if it is, N82 is a bargain being the older handset...
 
That's where the trouble comes into play.Hard resetting the phone,doing a back-up,reinstalling... etc... etc... etc... etc...It takes ages and yet after a few apps it gets slow again......

Im hoping its faster than the N95 8Gb, actually it better be faster. The N95 8GB takes around 15min to load a 700MB file its pathetic!! The SE, Touch Diamonds, iPhones are all less than 5mins....
I hope its changed on the N96

Nice analogy - like the Nokia, BMWs are pretty common. What would the more sophisticated Audi represent? :D
 
i dont think response and fiddling are as big an issue as its being made here. Regardless of what device you get, it will have some niggly issue. No such thing as a perfect device. BUT, out of all the phones I've used, the Nokias are the most stable and most responsive. I will be installing quite a few apps, but its got a decent processor and I seriously dont think its going to get a lot slower

N82, u can put in a bigger memory card, but it is a bonus to get 16GB upfront.

N82 may be a few months older but for all intents and purposes, they have the same technology as the newer Nokias, this has been researched to death and there is no convincing special feature or piece of technology that is so amazing in the just released Nokias, and the N82. You just need to walk down the same path I did with this and you will be converted :)
For the price, I will guarantee my left ball that the N82 will satisfy your needs and does it well :)

Really though, as mentioned before, the N96 has a larger screen, graphics acceleration and the memory, but it lacks the Xenon. Choices choices. N82's camera has won the best phone camera for 2008 in Europe.

The UI changed on the N78 and some other Nokias. I suspect it will be different on the N96, not a big difference but it wont be the same as the N95 and N82.

Now first off I think we need to be realistic here and keep in mind the difference in price between the two phones. The N96 is over R100 per month more than the N82 on the same package. You will be tied into that for two years and within a few months the N96 will not be the latest any more, the price will drop, but you will still be paying a premium price for it!

Having the absolute latest just does not make sense to me, especially when it does not offer you much more!

You have really sung the praises of the N96 and only given the N82 the flash as a plus. I think this is skewed by the amount of extra advertising the N96 has got.

Let's take on a few points you raised.... I will not mention bigger screens as this cannot be argued with but as I have said before my laptop has a 15" screen so there is no comparison! Where does one draw the line? "Nicer looks" I will also not argue with as you may find Pamela hot and I might find Angelina hot. It is personal taste. And it is also a phone not a beauty contest entrant!

Faster CPU - blatant untruth Piesang! Have you been drawn in by the marketing razzmatazz?!?! The N96 processor is in fact slower than the N82's! The N82 has ARM 11 332 MHz processor (with a separate processor to handle calls and a hardware graphics accelerator!), the N96 has the ARM 9 264 MHz CPU.

Some quotes from forums for you :

N96 processor is rubbish. STM Arm9 269Mhz is a joke. it's predecessor even holds a Arm11330Mhz OMAP 2430 CPU which is more powerful. in fact N95's CPU leaves N96 into dust when comparing benchmarks.

The N96 has an ARM9 processor clocked at 264MHz.
The N82 has ARM11 at 332MHz + 3D graphics acceleration.
The N85 has ARM11 at 369MHz.

The N96 processor is much lower on the performance scale both in architecture and clock speed, so it is quite naturally slower in any processor performance and graphics benchmarks. Whether it matters in real-life use cases is a different matter.

Memory - Just to clarify, you are referring to storage memory here as they both have the same RAM at 128Mb. Now we have stated before that with technological advances we'll soon have MicroSDcards of 16Gb anyway so I do not see the big deal with this. We already have 8Gb. And also if the truth be known, and I know we all use phones differently but I battle to fill 4Gbs at the moment!

Much better multimedia phone - this is way too subjective to even argue with! If it was based purely on having dedicated buttons then fine but I really do not fiddle with my phone too much when listening to music, I just listen!

Both have 128Mb of RAM so you will probably find not much difference... unless of course we factor in the superior processor on the N82!

Refer above..... I think people have a perception of the greatness of teh N96 because of Nokia's advertising and because MTN, who appear to just base this decision on... well not sure what they base it on really, have chosen it as phone of the month! They did the same thing last month with the relatively inferior Omnia!

Guys, the N82 is an awesome phone! All reviews, all specs, everything shows this.... it is apparently just not pretty!!!!!!!!!!

ya well its Nokia, they all crap, I used the N82 in January this year... it was nothing special imo... The camera was good, but the K850 in terms of speed of use and extra cam settings was still better minus a fraction of poorer picture resolution.

As per GSM arena the N96 is using Symbian 9.3 and the N82 Sybian 9.2. Symbian sucks in general, but a new one is always better to try out.
