Ok,end of the month is upgrade time, finaly!
I pretty much had my mind made up on the N97 but am wondering about the Hero.

Thought i would post something and get myself more confused!

So what u think N97 or Hero?

People here at work have the N97 and the Hero.

I would say take the Hero. Looks much better and works much better.

The N97 is a very feature rich phone, but Symbian has just given me too many problems in the past so I avoid it... I'd go hero as well, unless you need a keyboard (I do) as the hero is touch screen only

was faced with the same dilema... n97 or hero.

Got myself the hero. never been happier... (

got a n97 ... too many bugs, like hanging after calls

Update your firmware/software...

I've got he N97, on the latest (well now 2nd latest) firmware/software - V12
Got no problems...

Love the N97 :)

Cheers
Don

And with Version 20 just round the corner... Brilliant phone

As a N97 owner (you can read my tearfull complaints on this very same forum), and having gone through the Nokia 'miracle' firmware upgrades, I can confidently advise you to stay well clear from the N97. Do not know the HTC Hero, but I like the reviews.

N97 might have more features, but that just provides you with more things that "just don't work as advertised and frustrates the living hell out of you".

Tell you what - Take the Hero, if you don't like it, you can swop me my N97 :D

I think that the difference in the contract cost might end up being the deciding factor on this one. Only on a talk 130 from vodacom.

Morpheos, please keep us up to date with which phone you went for and why. I'm basically in the same situation now, need to get a new phone as I'm still stuck with a D600!! lol, i know. Phones i'm considering is the HTC Touch Pro 2 or the N97. I think i need a phone with a dedicated keyboard as i'll snap way too fast with an onscreen one. I have absolutley no experience with touchscreen phones so any input would be appreciated. My fallback plan if not getting touchscreen would be the SE W995 or Samsung Innov8. Atm i'm seriously leaning towards the N97, but these posts saying stay away from it is bothering me.

i went to 2 cellphone shops yesterday and asked them specifically which firmware will my N97 come with should i decide to get one with them..they were absoluteley clueless as to what version it would be...they did however say that there was a recall on the first batches of phones as they gave software problems but the new ones they get will be sorted and loaded with the newest firmware. how do you guys find working with your N97, messaging, making phone calls, using the keyboard, navigating through the phone.the whole UI experience?? because my choice is now between the N97 or samsung innov8 which is a completely diff phone but that is if i decide not to go touchscreen.

Thats interesting. Nokia admitting to a problem, "at 1 time you can't beleive" :D

Cellucity are running deals on both phones N97 and Hero. The Hero is slightly cheaper. Still not sure which 1 to get :(

Would be a good idea if you could "test drive" a phone before you bought 1,something like a car. Might make choosing easier. LOL

Get the Hero. Symbian needs a shake up to stay up to date, Android is the new standard.
