N97 or HTC Hero

LoL, yeah Morpheos i totally agree. instead of dummy phones - get the actual thing (charged) and let people test out the product they are buying. now you have to make a descision based on what you heard/read and hope for the best. It looks as though the Hero is probably the better phone.very customizable, no software problems from what i heard etc etc.. the only thing that is stopping me is theres no actual keyboard/buttons to type. i use my phone for everything, calling, sms, email, browsing..so i reckon i'll get very frustrated when constantly hitting the wrong button on the onscreen display.you have 2 have alot of patience to get it completely right. i like the whole touchscreen look and so on, but want my phone to be very functional. that's why i have the fallback option of the samsung innov8(great features) and costs exactly the same. or the w995

morpheos, are you talking about the deal at cellucity for R449pm on talk130 for N97??
How long would these packages last an average user. i use my phone for everything - most usage is for calls. i make about 10-20min worth of calls a day. so would that mean my minutes will only last me +-13 days? what about mtn on a anytime350 - R350 airtime with a flat rate of 1.95 gives you +-180 min. what are your thoughts?

I've always been a fan of Nokia, once strayed off the path, wont ever again!!!

I won't get an HTC piece of crap just because it's running Android which is good...

I had an Imate which was crap. I now have a Magic. The Magic and Hero are a whole different ball game, have you tried them?

nokia are *******s, they didnt even put the tv out chip in the last batch of 5800's made and then still sold them to the public

Thats the 1. I don't make a huge amount of calls from my cell. Use the work phone so 130 min just lasts a month. I recon you would def need a different package. Vodacom have it for R315 on a business package, I think thats correct.

dlc

I also like a keyboard, played with the old mans Omnia and gets a bit frustrating to use all the time.

Decisions decisions:erm:

I had a s710 (with keyboard) and upgraded to the Diamond 2. Was a bit concerned about the lack of keyboard but quickly adjusted to it, especially with the T9 function. Works really great now.

i haven't tried the new HTC, so i suppose me flaming it is silly... my friend recently got the hero, i'll play around with it for a while before i make up my mind...

I do like the look of the N97 though...

Morpheos, please keep us up to date with which phone you went for and why. I'm basically in the same situation now, need to get a new phone as I'm still stuck with a D600!! lol, i know. Phones i'm considering is the HTC Touch Pro 2 or the N97. I think i need a phone with a dedicated keyboard as i'll snap way too fast with an onscreen one. I have absolutley no experience with touchscreen phones so any input would be appreciated. My fallback plan if not getting touchscreen would be the SE W995 or Samsung Innov8. Atm i'm seriously leaning towards the N97, but these posts saying stay away from it is bothering me.

Well i made a decision.
N97 in black.
Enjoying it(except for the flashing mail which i cant get rid of with an empty mail box).
Typing this from my phone. Coldnt even access the site from my old phone.

Nice man, and how do you find the overall UI experience of the phone? I'm very interesed in your comments on the phone. I'm very worried about going from a normal old phone to the whole touch interface.like will it be responsive enough? will i get irritated typing messages, browsing, working the menu's etc etc. I am 23, not 70 by the way.lol.

I am enjoying the phone. find that it is a bit slow at times, eg opening pictures. Typing msgs is very much the same if u don't use the keyboard.
Good luck
