N97 Touchscreen announced today...

Jealous much?

maybe if it were an htc brand i would be. but of symbian OS, no thank you.

Lol, this is the first nokia touchscreen, i would hardly call it an accomplishment, even LG and samsung beat them to the punch ....

It is the second Nokia touchscreen actually. Currently Symbian is the worlds leading smartphone operating system and it is used by big industry names such as Nokia, Samsung and LG. It does more per clock cycle than any other smartphone operating system and it is also much smaller. Symbian OS 9.2 for example is only 120MB in size.

HTC uses windows mobile which is not nearly as powerful as Symbian. If you look at what is visually possible on Symbian 9.4 with the 5th edition of Series60 you will see that Nokia is now the leader on all fronts in mobile devices.

Simply put - the N97 is the best phone in the world.

er..no.
Just. no. Windows Mobile is ugly as hell but still beats Symbian in functionality.

Having said that, this phone's glassy interface looks pretty awesome. Seriously considering getting this instead of the Touch HD. But the release date is too far off (Q2 2009).

To bad it has duel led. Lance will complain about that one

Ja, Xenon would have been nice.

Not just me it appears! :)

To be the absolute best phone ever it would need the best of every feature.. and there is no denying xenon beats LED in the flash stakes!

I know the argument is that xenon uses more power and you can't use xenon to light video recording... so why not have one xenon and one LED instead of DUEL LED?

By the way, some links from the Nokia site (best from the horse's mouth I say! :) )

Touchscreen phones from Nokia.

Nokia 7700 (4th Q 2003)
Nokia 7710 (4th Q 2004)
Nokia 6708 (Don't think this one saw the light)
Nokia 5800 XpressMusic (4th Q 2008)
Nokia N97

Very nice, but why N-series? I prefer the E-series, and this phone looks like it should have been an E-series right?

Let me not say this too loud for fear of being attacked by Piesang, but perhaps it is because the N-Series is THE Nokia flagship series! :)

The 5800 wasn't the first so this isn't the second. . .

The Nokia E90 Communicator is Nokia's flagship

http://mobilementalism.com/2008/07/28/nokia-e90-review/

Summary

In conclusion, the Nokia E90 isn't just one of the best-equipped smartphones on the market today, it's also one of the most usable. Every feature on it works exactly like you'd hope it would, with full screen Web browsing, photography, video recording, musical playback and document editing all working superbly. The only feature that doesn't perform too well is the GPS, which is far too slow to be of any use for real-time navigation.

That said, the GPS has proved itself invaluable to me when I have got lost, and is something I'd definitely miss. All in all then, the Nokia E90 Communicator is a fantastic smartphone, and one I strongly recommend. I'll give it 9/10.

The Nokia Flagship.

The Nokia E90 is the flagship of the Eseries range and will certainly further establish the credentials of the Nokia Eseries.

So I guess the N96 is the current N-series flagship.

Um , I thought this was an N97 thread.... my mistake! Back to chatting about the E-series then.

In all these posts other phones was mentioned so I can't see why there is anything wrong with my posts. lmao

Here too.

Functions like a X1 but with better specs.

Good thing I decided against the N96. Would have been crying now.

Yes, I listed it like that cause you DON'T get that on a iPhone.

The 5800 was made as a 1up on the iPhone (Nokia admitted to that) and it will be priced very aggressively (R3000).

This N-series version is way over the top of any other touch or qwerty phone so it will cost a lot. Maybe R10k or maybe even more.

Very nice, but why N-series? I prefer the E-series, and this phone looks like it should have been an E-series right?

I just hope its fast! Just the thought of a touchscreen symbian phone slowness irritates me:p

I think Nokia should start a new Series of phones. This one surely combines the E- and N-Series into one device.

Impossible to keep up indeed - especially for Apple :p

E-series is for business and weak camera performance. This phone is a multimedia powerhouse so it does not fit the dull and boring E-series line up. Check the video - it is real fast.

Actually no - it is is almost a centimeter narrower than the iPhone, less than 2mm taller (so it is about the same height) and it is only 4mm thicker due to its more powerful battery, better camera, working bluetooth, better screen and other advanced features.

To sum up, it is in general smaller than an iPhone.

As stated, it is smaller than an iPhone.

No, E-series will die out eventually.

Oh, and here.

Sorry OP, Piesang appears to have hijacked yet another cellphone thread... sorry, I obviously mentioned his name louder than I should have. This is what I was hoping to avoid.

.

Symbian is faster and it does multitasking a lot better than windows. With this phone, and the E90, it is clear that symbian and Series60 has what it takes to go into bigger markets such as netbooks.

With Linux also pushing for ARM CPUs in netbooks it will be a nice battle between Windows Mobile, Symbian Series60 and Linux (Ubuntu I guess) in the netbook environment.

The 5800 wasn't the first so this isn't the second. . .
The 5800 was the first recent one. Sure there are internet tablets and other stuff that Nokia made in the past.

The Nokia Flagship. . .
.... is the N-series line and the pinnacle of it is, at this stage, the N96. Soon the N97 will be the flagship Nokia.

The E90 is great and I have played around with it - but it is the best business phone. Not the flagship phone of Nokia.

I for one will be looking forward to this one. I always loved the S60 Symbian OS, but wanted a touchscreen and qwerty. After using Windows Mobile for the past 3 years, I'm just dik of it. I change phones a lot and have used quite a few Imates and HTC's. Unfortunately I've been dissappointed lately. Too much issues with WM. I'm now using a E61i and in my opinion it is brilliant. In terms of functionality, it's as good as WM except it doesn't have a touchscreen. And there's no doubt that the web browser beats the s**t out of IE mobile.

Thats nothing to be proud of, its the worst of all the Nokias, N-series:sick:
The N95 8GB was the most stable N-series...
