R79/m looks like dial-up access. Prepaid services work off a totally different software and hardware platform that cannot be integrated with ADSL-type services.

Telkom never tells the truth. Just disregard anything the "top management" say, with that said, RELEASE LLU already!
 
Can someone explain how a serialised or hierarchical service can be a bundled service? Bundling can only refer to parallel setups with no, or only a few minor dependencies. As explained in the article, which was my opinion since forever, the 'DSL part' depends on the 'voice' part. It cannot be unbundled because they do not constitute a bundle.

Telkom are playing the same trump card that Vodscum played with Cell C... "unsustainable". Its amazing how competition makes things sustainable very quickly.

The billing and administrative system implementation, yes... but the connection from the exchange card to SDC to DP to CPE remains the same, ADSL works by being injected at the exchange or SDC onto the line, the software and hardware platform has nothing to do with Telkom preventing an immediate R1456 saving per year (annual rental - prepaid waya-waya)

The fact is that, irrespective of the differences in management systems, placing ADSL onto a prepaid line is dead simple, it's just very convienient (from a revenue perspective) not to allow this.

edit - by Richard Majoor's arguement, the line costs R140 per year, since my prepaid line rental clearly covers the cost.

I had Chrome translate that page into English
Television, Internet and telephony in one package. That's a lot cheaper and easier. Furthermore, you benefit from free installation now by a mechanic.

Hehe if the Telkom fat cats saw that, their monocles would crack and their top hats fall off. About R700 for 120mbit speed and tv services? That means our connections cost more than 120X as much as the Dutch. And double that if you take a DSTV subscription as well.


THAT, people, is a world class service, anyone at Telkom who says they're internationally competitive should be shot immediately.

Fact is even if its only a saving of R10 or R20 its a saving that you didn't have before.
Fact is most ADSL users would drop the telephone line for a R10 or R20 saving because they all have cellphones anyway.
Fact is this will free up telephone ports on the exchanges, which means exchanges will require less upgrades, and less costs to Telkom.
 
Going back to the R140 p/year line rental for waya waya, really doesn't matter if it runs on different software, truth is, they can offer line rental at such a low price, same copper, same exchanges, but they just have to suck ADSL users dry with a R139 pm line rental, price is over 10x more.

Please explain telkom!!!!!!
 
I do tend to question how they can offer a prepaid line rental for R140 p/y and not cover costs... because the prepaid users will be predominantly using the line for incoming calls rather than outgoing in my opinion...

Or if they ARE using it for outgoing calls then I doubt its to the tune of +- R1500 p/y worth of prepaid calls.

I do understand and to a degree accept the concept of an Access Deficit, but until we see some actual figures, its a bit of a nebulous concept for us to accept from a company that has routinely charged more than is necessary (in my opinion)

Telkom says that Naked ADSL makes no sense from OUR point of view considering how ADSL is currently priced.

Would you rather have a million customers paying R140 a month or a hundred paying R1500? I think the product is targetted at the budget limits of the consumer.
