Nasa to test deep-space capsule

If you go back to 1969 and then compare to technology now you look on in amazement.

Then you read this story and you wtf is going on. We are advanced yet going to the moon is a big mission. LOL makes you wonder if the moon landing was faked. I doubt it but damn 4 decades later we can barely get man on the moon. By now we should have setup a base there.

Can't we stick malema in the capsule and shoot it off to mars?!

Are you crazy? The mere sight of him would lead to an immediate Alien invasion...or rather: intervention.

Also imagine the size of that payload to get his fat a$$ into space?

I watched a documentary series called When we left Earth some time ago. It was all about the space program. What I saw actually impressed me, the fact that we got people to the moon and back was amazing. But that was the goal, to the moon and back. Nothing more, no safety, no long term plans, nothing.

Also, after the Challenger disaster a major focus was put on safety, we cannot just strap a few tourists to a unproven and hellishly powerful rocket, blast them into orbit in a "ship" with now backup systems, and hope for the best.

Also, Orion is planned for long term missions to, like to mars or near earth asteroids, so the relatively simple mission to get back to the moon was canceled, and a grander plan was created.

The moon? Been there, done that. But Mars, now you are talking!

The manned moon mission was a huge gamble that paid off. There's a reason the Russians only sent probes. The need to go there dwindled. We may learn new things now with advances in science, but then it was becoming old hat.

We have not learned a thing about space travel in 4 decades.

How long has it been since commercial airlines have been an everyday normal thing? Less than 5 decades. So we went from crashing experimental planes to have the skies full of the most advanced planes ever build yet nasa is still only planning to go the moon without humans .

I know space travel is not really as easy as flying around earth but damn it is not keeping up with the rest of technological advances. If we don't put humans in space we won't get anywhere and space travel seems to be dying. I personally think nasa cannot actually do any more. We are not advancing or we have not found a way to travel around the universe. We need warp speed!!!!!! Maybe cern can push us beyond light :D

How hard can it be to put more people on the moon, build the ship fly to the moon and land, we did it 4 decades ago :D.

Manned space flight beyond earth orbit is just a waste of money. What would be achieved which cannot be achieved by using an umanned satellite or robot?

If it were possible, I'd offer to go on a one-way trip to Mars even if it meant dying on the first day. Man that would be so awsome it would make it worthwhile.

In my view, the Americans were trying too hard to make Star Trek a reality. The shuttle disasters showed they were too ambituous.

They are learning things all the time about space travel and how long humans can survive for long periods.

Consider also that we may not need manned space craft for the moon. Why risk it?

this is why we never went back: apollo 18. nuff said.
