Hi all

Keep finding myself in this hole, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who came accross this before.

Go to interview, sent by agent, Guy likes me, says please can I get your original unedited CC,
Gives me his email address.

What do you guys do?

Tell agent he asked for my direct details?
Bypass agent and send him my CV like he asked?

I Have seen before specifically written instructions from agents, and they say report them, but I'm worried about potential victimization from this issue, from both sides,

Thing is its nasty to be caught in the middle,
What do you guys usually Do?

Sometimes agents mess with a CV too much and they might want to see the original to see what it looks like.

But if they are being unethical already before they even offered you a job its a pretty big warning bell.

I would send it to them and see if they make an offer directly or through the agent or not.

If he employs you, you were recruited by the agent and he still pays. He just wants to see what the agent may have hidden.

Your call but to the employer there's no risk either way as they are already in an agreement with the agent.

Send him your CV.

Alot of the unscrupulous agencies edit your CV, adding things that employers are looking for.

I do agree with you on this one as I took one look at the job spec, and told the agent its way over my Head, are you sure its right?

Says yes, would love to see what lies she sent this Guy about me to get her commission.

Not too sure about that, isn't he trying to weasel out of paying the agent their commission ,with me in the middle?

He can't as he would lose a court battle hands down. He wants to see what the agent has prettied up.

Correct, the agent sourced you for them...no way the employer can get out of paying whatever placement fee they agreed to.

Had that same situation. Sent CV but also phoned the agent and let them know I did so. That way they heard it from we and can't say I cut them out.

Wouldn't have mattered anyway...both sides were interested in keeping things friendly & well behaved.

Agencies usually haven't a clue when it comes to explaining technical skills. Your own cv will tell the employer exactly what he needs to know about you, nothing sinister about the request.

And most techie CVs look like complete crap with spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.
They are often too long or they leave out key things like reason for leaving a position

If your CV is well written agents just change it into their standard format.
They process many CVs a day there is no conspiracy

What they may do is leave out some boring crap about how you like Star Trek etc.

That is the sensible way.
He probably isnt trying to cut the agency out.
He probably wants to see the original CV

I like to see the original for a simple reason.
Can the applicant write, spell, organise their thoughts etc
Those sins are often covered by agents

If I am hiring an analyst, tech writer etc. I tell agents I dont want the formatted CV. I want to see the original

A C++ Dev or UNIX Admin I am quite grateful for the agents formatting effort

Agree with you there,

Did play this by the book, sent Cv only after I told agent about what I was asked,

She appreciated the guesture, and explained that this happens quite regularly, even gets strange situations whereby the person "rejected" by that company ends up answering the calls when she calls,

This has happened before to me, and maybe its my imagination, but I get victimized afterwards and say what if I'd kept quiet and said nothing....
