they say SA is seating ontop of $2.5 trillion worth of minerals
http://www.citypress.co.za/Business/News/SA-mineral-wealth-close-to-R30-trillion-20121115

that is a lot of money. , enough money to make SA a force to be reckoned with. enough money to eradicate poverty and prove Jesus wrong (Matthew 26:11).

But we will always have Mother F***** like Patrice Motsepe , Anglo American etc who will take a huge chunk of it for themselves and give some (very little) so that will be called a philantropists. Mother ****ers who will steal from the masses.

I strongly feel that minerals must be owned by the people ie government and the money spent on developing the country. I m not against entrepreuneship but mining magnates.

ALL Mineral wealth to the People

Only problem with that is government won't spend it on the people, they'll spend it on themselves...and R200,000,000 upgrades to their homes.... The poor will stay poor - and those connected to government will get richer.

The problem is minerals are worth nothing in the ground and to get it out the ground you have to be capable of running an efficient and competent operation because it costs an enormous amount of money to get it out the ground. Achieving any profitability is actually quite tough, and something this government has proven time and time again they are not capable of doing with much success. If you are going to lose money getting it out the ground you are better off just leaving it in the ground in the first place. Or, and this is the better option, the government lets other people get it out the ground for them more efficiently than they could(actually generating a sizeable profit) and then they take a nice chunk of change away from them through taxes(thats what is done at the moment). It removes all the hassle of having to run an enormous nationalised mining industry.

Never forget the role tax plays in all of this.

Can I have some of what you're smoking?

Not too clued up in this area; but I heard in an interview the other day that South Africa is the #1 richest country in the world in terms of minerals?

Is this true?
In relation to size?

I think the mines should be controlled by the government... but not this government.

That^

The mineral wealth should be used for the people in the country not to make an individual or company richer. It should be run by the government. If the profits from the mines where used for South Africa as a whole e-tolls would not be an issue, the NHI would not be an issue.

But not this greedy, self serving, corrupt, stupid, thieving bunch of looters that blatantly disregard the welfare of the people in South Africa.

While this is what we think happens (and it is what is supposed to happen) you perhaps unintentionally let slip the truth- "the government lets other people get it out the ground for them". Or to put it another way the government sees the mineral wealth as theirs when it is in fact ours. They do tax the companies that take it out the ground but where does all this tax go? Zumas compound, Zumas Freeway, Ministerial Shopping trips by means of private charter planes? The list is endless.

I would suggest that the government (preferably a real one not the current crooks) should use private corporations to do the dirty work ie getting the stuff out the ground. But the profits should be a lot less than they currently are. Im talking about a situation where we the people benefit along the same lines that the Saudi people benefit by means of massive petrol subsidies. There are countries in the world where the leaders actually do this quite successfully. But then America tends to bomb them. Think Libya under Gaddafi where he used the natural wealth to make sure every last person had a house etc. Think Chavez.

Bottom line is that it is all our wealth equally and the government is giving it away to shareholders and foreign corporations.

Government should not run business. That simple. There should not be state capitalism. It should however have a healthy tax on those mines :)

Abundance For All – NOW!
We, the people, have appointed the government as our servants to do the best for us – THEY ARE NOT SERVING US – THEY ARE SERVING THEMSELVES. They have betrayed the dream of Nelson Mandela and other elders of integrity who dedicated their lives to our freedom. South Africa is one of the wealthiest countries of the world and yet we have more poverty, more hunger, more despair, more misery than ever before in our history. Only we – the people, can change this.

Our Inalienable Rights – The Rights of All People

The country belongs to its people - The land belongs to the people
The water, the rivers and lakes belong to the people
The beaches and the oceans around us belong to the people
The forests, the mountains, the skies above and the airwaves belong to the people
All the minerals in the ground belong to the people - gold, the platinum, chrome, copper, iron, tin, aluminium, diamonds, coal and all others

These do not belong to the government or any other corporation that has unlawfully laid claim to it.
The UBUNTU Liberation Movement and political PARTY presents a solid foundation for a new social structure into a new era of real freedom from economic slavery, and into real prosperity. Our philosophy is based on the principles of absolute equality, decentralised power, creating abundance for all, traditional African values, honouring our ancestors, and Unity Consciousness.

The UBUNTU Liberation Movement and political PARTY

Who ?

The land belongs to the people

So when this party is in power I can stake my claim to a nice portion of Robben Island - facing the mountain.

All the minerals in the ground belong to the people - gold, the platinum, chrome, copper, iron, tin, aluminium, diamonds, coal and all others

A free for all - where do I sign up ?
